Phyllis Mary Shields May 14, 1920 – December 21, 2020 On the evening of December 21, 2020, Phyllis passed gently and with peace from this life to the next. In 1999, she was predeceased by Walter John Shields after fifty-nine years of marriage. Phyllis was born at home in Judge, Ontario, on May 14, 1920 and died December 21, 2020, peacefully at her home in New Liskeard, Ontario. She was the last member of the seven children of James and Jessie Green. She is lovingly held in the memory of her children Donna Shields – Poe (Tony). Jessica Thompson (Roger),Walter G. Shields (Corra), and George Shields (Iris). Grandma will be missed by Bryce Thompson, Stephanie Shields, Jenna Shields Kelly, Deanna Shields Bongers and Wyatt and John Shields. The honour of having four wonderful great grandchildren , Aurora Thompson Gaius and Ronan Kelly, and Avery Bongers brought great joy to her life. Phyllis became part of the community fabric through her involvement in the Royal Canadian Legion, the Rebecca Lodge, and the Tia Chi Club which she attended well into her nineties. She co-owned VJ’s Pet Shop with her husband Walter until they retired in their 70’s. She looked after her beautiful perennial beds right up until the end of the growing season this year. Fresh cut flowers were usually on the dining room table for all to enjoy and admire. It goes without saying that her family was foremost in her life. She was a strong role model in the lives of her children, nieces and nephews. Our, Mom was a friend to many and had a wonderful way of extending compassion, sound advice, strength and thoughtfulness to others. It is with sadness and joy that the family releases her to the One who gave her life, as she has now been called home. We will miss her, but will always remember her and continue to love her. We will always remember her saying, “ There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it hardly becomes any of us to talk about the rest of us.” At a later date the family will celebrate her life in a service of remembrance. Phyllis’s life was an inspiration and whose memory is a benediction. If you wish to give a memorial donation please consider a charity of your choice.
