Owen John Raymond Smith, Q.C., age 73, of New Liskeard, Ontario, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2015 in New Liskeard, Ontario surrounded by family. Owen was born in Goderich, Ontario to Owen Smith, Sr. and Gertrude Smith. He went to high school at Medway High in London, Ontario. He went on to study law at the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1964. He was called to the bar in 1966 and practiced law in London with the law firm of McKenzie, Smith & McLean until 1968, when he moved to the New Liskeard area and started his own law firm. Owen was awarded the designation of Queen's Counsel and was certified by the Ontario Bar Association as a specialist in Civil Litigation. Owen had great passion for and enjoyed unparalleled success in the practice of law. He successfully appeared at all levels of Court in Ontario and at the Supreme Court of Canada. While Owen practiced law in a small northern town, his reputation for stellar advocacy extended across the entire province. Owen had immense pride in his entire team at Smith, Taylor & Associates. Owen loved reading, SCUBA diving, skiing, mountain biking, travelling with his family and living in Northern Ontario. Owen will forever be remembered as a loving, optimistic and devoted husband to Joanne, a doting father to Doug, Shannon, Tara and Gabrielle and an indulgent grandfather to Kyla, Alisha, Adam, Sydney, Maia, Ella and Jaida. Owen's enduring wish was for all members of his beloved family to enjoy life to its fullest. There will be a private family service.
