Olive Grace Fitzpatrick of Haileybury, Ontario, died peacefully on October 28, 2016, at Temiskaming Hospital. She was 94. The daughter of Tryphena Pricilla Eddy Best Boutcher and George Willis Boutcher, Olive was born on July 3, 1922, in Spencers Cove, Newfoundland. She was one of six children. She, her parents, and her siblings, Allenby, Blanche, Vida, and Audrey, later relocated to Montreal, Canada. A younger brother, Lloyd, passed away at age five from tuberculosis. After graduating from high school, Olive trained as a professional medical secretary in Montreal and worked for the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Wilder Penfield, who developed a surgical method for treating epilepsy, called the Montreal Procedure. She later worked for General Surgeon Dr. Gary Curtis in Truro, Nova Scotia. Olive married her beloved husband, Frank Ralph Fitzpatrick, a comptroller with Ralston Purina Company, with whom she raised two children. The family lived in Pointe Claire, Montreal, later moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, and Truro, Nova Scotia, where the couple eventually retired. After Frank’s death in 1981, Olive relocated back to Pointe Claire, Montreal, where she enjoyed an active life with close friends and family, traveling, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. In later years, Olive moved to Haileybury, Ontario, to be closer to her daughter. Survivors include Olive’s two loving children, Frank Gregory Fitzpatrick (Nancy) of Rockville, Maryland, USA, and Betty Ann Victoria Fitzpatrick Durocher (William) of New Liskeard. Also surviving are four devoted grandchildren – Michael Francis Fitzpatrick (Laura), William Gregory Durocher (Nancy), Daniel Paul Durocher (Hana), and Ryan Fitzpatrick Durocher. Two great grandchildren also survive – Chloe Elizabeth Fitzpatrick and Parker James Fitzpatrick. A third great grandchild, Claire Victoria Fitzpatrick, preceded Olive in death in 2012. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses of Extendicare Tri-town in Haileybury and Temiskaming Hospital.
