Norman Howard Mudrick passed away on Saturday August 4, 2012 at the age of 85 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Jim (Nicole), Lori (Tyrone), Vic and, Val (Vern), grandchildren Kim, Lisa, Tegan, Mitchel, Gillian, Marshal and Diamond, and great-grandchildren Mikayla, Victoria, Niles, Ashton and Jemma. Norm was predeceased by Marg, his beloved life partner and wife of 52 years, as well as his son Donald and grand-daughter Keely Jade. Norm was born in Englehart, and started working for the ONR when he was 16. He travelled as an operator for a number of years until becoming a dispatcher at the Englehart station. Shortly afterwards, he met Marg and they lived with their family in Englehart until 1977, spending summers at the cottage on lake Sesikinika. Norm and Marg retired to Bracebridge where they spent 17 wonderful years with great friends and many family visits. They returned to the north to be closer to their children, living in Haileybury for most of their final years. Norm loved music, taking violin lessons when he was young, later on teaching himself to play the guitar, and singing in a number of choirs through the years. Evenings at the cottage or after dinner parties often ended with a sing-song and Norm on the guitar. Norm’s greatest hobby was woodwork, spending hours each day in his workshop creating his magic. If he didn’t have a large project on the go, or was at the cottage, he would always find something to fix or putter with. He built their lovely retirement home in Bracebridge and continued to build furniture for the family, well into retirement. Most of all Norm loved being with his family, and always looked forward to their visits. He would always meet us with wide-open arms, a smile, and a big bear hug of welcome. Norm didn’t want a funeral. If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Teck Pioneer Residence, or the Kirkland Lake and District Hospital where he received outstanding care and compassion. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart. Condolences, contributions and memorial candles may be left at www.mcdonaldfuneralhome.ca
