Please accept my sincere sympathy. I remember Mike from the cottage at Nettie Lake and the summer he adopted the duckling named Donald. He was quite the force of nature! I’m sure there are many more happy stories out there to remember him by.

Lynda Enouy, March 1, 2021

Sandy and family, It’s hard to know what to say in a time like this, but I find comfort in a life well lived – and Mike lived well. I remember his smile and getting a tour of the cottage (that loft!) and being mesmerized by it and all your joyous and sometimes enigmatic energy and smiles. Where was the source of such joy and happiness? And how can I live in a loft so magical? Needless to say, Mike (and your family) left an indelible mark on me growing up – one that will live on through all your children and your children’s children and your friends and community at large. He was one for the books, and I know he’s continuing to shine that smile on all of us. Sending so much love, gratitude, remembrance and light to your family for a life that continues to touch my life. Keep smiling and laughing, it’s food for your souls and the language of currency for a family that has always lived well. – Caitlin Willis

To Sandy and the boys. I have always enjoyed Mikes company while working for him at the Adams mine or servicing the furnace in later years in the basement on first street. We would have great discussions down there about the old days. His smile was infectious and I would always leave in a better mood than when I arrived. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of serving as a member of the KL Volunteer Fire Brigade with Mike and his brother Moe in the late 70’s and 80’s. Mike was an integral part of the brigade’s leadership group and was a great mentor for the younger members of the Volunteer Brigade! His captivating smile and zest for life were his trademarks. We trust that the family will nurture the fantastic memories that embodied Mike’s life and will no doubt be consoled by them in true Irish fashion! God Bless! Jerry and Liz Robazza

Blaine Crawford, March 1, 2021

Dear Sandy and family: As I read all these condolences I realize that Mike has touched many ,many lives!! Our friendship was a new friendship however, as we travelled the road of dementia and caregiver. Mike touched our lives in a special way. Our little group daily supported each other in our journey. Mike with his upbeat personality made life enjoyable, even though there was trials. He was full of stories that captivated our every moment. We anticipated what was going to happen next, and it would usually have humour to make it colourful. I often felt cheated that I didnt know Mike sooner. It was so very sweet to see and feel his love for his family, his whole world would lighten up. I know that your memories of him will be a thousand fold and that is what will help you to take each day as it comes. Love Mary

Me, Yin, and the kids are so sorry to hear about your loss. He was the first Canadian we met when we came here, and quickly became and remains of my best friends here in Canada. He was one of the only Canadians who can pronounce my Chinese name. I still remember the almost daily calls from him telling me to be careful on the roads to the open pit when we worked together in Lynn Lake. He taught me Irish songs and I taught him Chinese songs – some of my fondest memories. Yin will miss his phone calls from how is the prettiest lady in Lynn Lake to Flin Flon to Timmins to Sudbury. We’re so grateful for the visit me, Yin and Jeff had with him a few years back. We learnt from him how to always have a smile on our face. We will miss him deeply. Please give Sandy a hug from all of us.

Awe, we have lost another great KL pioneer. Mike refereed a student/teacher hockey game one year ( I believe Mark was a student player) ; and he favoured the teachers on many calls. When we were sharing a few adult beverages, he just winked at us and said he knew how the students would ride us if they had won. Everybody who knew Mike loved him. God bless you, Mrs. Whelan, Mark, David, and Shawn. We miss him already. P
