Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to a husband, father, brother, uncle and Papa. Mike died at home at age of 70 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family. Pre-deceased by his parents, Mary and Leo Hartling, his sister Sylvia Hartling and his nephews Tim and Kyle Giroux.. Mike is survived by his wife Elaine (McCabe), his daughters Susan Hartling and Janet Hartling, his grandsons, Susan`s sons Seth and Eli. Also survived by his sister Patricia Hartling and brother Patrick Hartling, his nieces Suzanne Pilon, Debra Cassistat and Patti Lizewski. Mike was born, raised and lived in Kirkland Lake and had a proud 29 year career in policing. He first joined the Kirkland Lake Police Department in 1972, worked there and left the police force as an Inspector after 24 years. Mike then joined the OPP in 1996 and retired as a Sergeant in 2000. Mike was a man with many hobbies including fishing, fly fishing, hunting bear, moose, caribou, deer and in later years bow hunting with friends Jerry Boudreault and Archie MacKinnon. Mike enjoyed playing golf and baseball then collecting. In his retirement he began collecting antique tools with his friend Dan Spiegelman. Mike was a `early bird` at all the yard sales in Kirkland Lake and was a `regular` at Robertson`s auctions in Englehart. Mike also had a great sense of humour right up to the end.
