WILBERFORCE, Lena

1936 - 2024

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Lena Louise Wilberforce (nee Lariviere) on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Rockland, Ontario.

Lena was born and raised in Kirkland Lake where over the years she worked at the telephone office, the Bon Air, the Commodore and the Don Lou.  In her later years, she became a PSW and worked at Teck Pioneer Residence until her retirement.   She will be fondly remembered for her love of music and her amazing piano playing abilities.  She was a gifted self-taught piano player who could play anything. She started playing at a very young age at various community events alongside her father, a renowned fiddle player in the area.  Her family will cherish the memories of Christmas carols around the piano, and leading sing songs at various family gatherings.

Lena was predeceased by her husband Wayne, her parents Beatrice (nee Rozon) Pearce (Frank) and Paul Lariviere, and sisters Patricia Sheaves (Al) and Laurette Lariviere.

Lena is survived by Debbie McGill, Vicky Wilberforce, Connie Wilberforce and Cathie Janssen (Mark Turpin).  Lena is also survived by her grandchildren Shauna and Kristina McGill (Ryan), Stephany Janssen, Kylie Harding and Wayne Wilberforce.  She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren Carter, Evynn and Aby.  Lena will be fondly remembered by Cliff and Colleen McGill, and her stepsister Sheila Ferguson.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Complex in Orleans, Ontario. As per Lena’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. Internment to follow in Summer 2025 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. In lieu of flowers donations in Lena’s name can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

We are saddened to hear our former neighbor has passed. We always had the best chats on the sidewalk as the kids played around us. Rest in peace Lena!

What can I say about Lena? She was such a hoot. We did our PSW training together. She always had me laughing. What a great lady.
