BLACK, Layne

1956 - 2022

With heavy hearts, the family of Layne Francis Black (Smiley) announces his death, at the age of 65, on January 20, 2022 at the Colonel Belcher Health Care Centre in Calgary.

Layne was born in Englehart on February 26, 1956.
He was predeceased by his father, Milford Black, in 2015. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Black (Field), siblings Ed (Marie), Dean (Theresa) and Donna (Bob Swanson). He is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Layne moved to Calgary in 1978 to pursue a career as an accountant and worked for several different oil companies during his career. He was an avid traveler, visited numerous countries and enjoyed many cruises.
During the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, he was proud when chosen as one of the Escort Runners to accompany the Torch Bearers.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service at this time. His ashes will be placed in the
family plot in the Englehart Cemetery.
For those who wish, donations in Layne’s memory can be made to
the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

In high school Ralph, Lewis and Layne and I were close friends and spent alot of time together. Since high school I saw or communicated with Layne at various times. I have fond memories of Layne. We both worked together at A & W Travel Center before he went to work at the movie theatre. We both became accountants. Layne will be sorely missed. My condolences to all his family and friends.
