Lawrence Edward Kruger passed away on July 3, 2015. He was born on March 4, 1920 to Adolph and Carrie (Yateman) Kruger in Englehart, Ontario. Lawrence grew up in Krugerdorf, attending Chamberlain #1 school. Lawrence and Irma (Siewert) were married in Kirkland Lake on December 26, 1942. At that time he was operating heavy machinery to build the airport at Goose Bay, Labrador for Allied planes during WW II. Lawrence and Irma moved to Noranda where he worked at Noranda Mine operating the `Dominion` crane. There they raised four children: Dennis, Ron, Laura and Sheila. Irma predeceased Lawrence on December 10, 1981 after suffering for many years with Alzheimer`s Disease. Lawrence renewed a longtime friendship with Lottie Pierce. They married and spent many happy years together in Niagara Falls where he operated a crane for Newman Bros. until he retired. He and Lottie kept busy with family and travel until she passed away in 2001. Wanting to be closer to Laura and Ron, he moved back to Englehart. He found companionship with Verna Bazowsky and they have been happy together for the past 13 years. Lawrence lived a long and interesting life. Starting out on his dad`s farm in Krugerdorf, he developed a love for steam engines and locomotives. He was always learning and teaching. He was always ready to tell a good story, whether about life on the farm, or skiing along the tracks to school in the winter, or working in Labrador or at Noranda Mine, or about some place he`d visited recently. He showed his children by example to see life as an adventure. He was very creative. He was a very good woodworker: he built scale models of his `Dominion` crane for his children and grandchildren. He wrote poetry. He wrote a book, `The Story of My Life.` He played the accordion, and he loved life. Always being a big kid himself, he showed those around him how to laugh and live and love. Lawrence will be missed greatly by many. He lived his 95 years to the fullest and without regret. Lawrence is survived by his children Dennis (and Linda) Kruger of Edmonton, Ron (and Debbie) Kruger of Elliot Lake, Laura Landers of Haileybury, and Sheila (and Steve) Cox of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren Peter and Karen Landers, Marshall and Brook Kruger, Ben Kruger, and Aaron, Julie and Brian Cox; great grandchildren Owen and Rhyme Kruger, Adia Brawner, and Levi Cox; as well as his loving partner Verna Bazowsky, and his brother Herb Kruger of Nobel, Ontario. Lawrence was predeceased by his loving wife and mother of his children, Irma (Siewert) Kruger December 10, 1981. Also his second wife Lottie Pierce, April 20, 2001. The family of the late Mr. Lawrence Kruger will receive friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 10 - 11 am for a Meet & Greet.
