GRAVEL, Jules

It is with the very greatest of sorrows that the family announces the passing on October 22nd, of Jules Gravel of Earlton, born Dec. 22nd, 1940. Jules was a well-known and respected mechanic, machinist, businessman, and local politician. He started as a very young man dedicating himself to his community as a volunteer fireman, fire chief, then councillor and longtime reeve of Armstrong Township. He was also very involved with the Earlton-Timiskaming Regional Airport Board. No one who came to his door for help was ever turned away, he had a sympathetic ear and a willing heart. No problem was too small or too great for him to handle. He was known for his calm, positive attitude, and his great sense of humour. He always welcomed family and friends into his home. He enjoyed his workshop, where he always had ongoing projects which he loved to work on - he was a very creative man with numerous talents and interests. Jules was predeceased by his parents Hervé and Yvette (Brûlé) Gravel, his brother Georges and his niece Micheline Gravel. He will be painfully missed but will live on in the hearts of his wife Ghislaine, his sister Cécile, his brothers Marcel and Jean-Paul(Lynn-Marie), his brothers-in-law Gilles(Myrtle) Pigeon and Réjean(Maria) Pigeon, his beloved nephews and nieces, and many cousins and friends. He had often expressed the wish that there be no wake and no funeral services upon his passing. His wishes will be respected. Jules loved us all, and we loved him. This is not “Goodbye”, but rather “See you later.” (Jules was very passionate about the Earlton-Timiskaming Regional Airport’s survival and strongly believed that it was a vital service for the area. In memoriam contributions to “The Township of Armstrong for the Airport” will be gratefully acknowledged.)
