BAILEY, Joyce Bertha Aldred

1916 - 2013

In loving memory of Mrs. Joyce Bertha (Aldred) Bailey, of Hough Lake, who passed away at Englehart & District Hospital, on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the age of 96. Joyce lived for most of her 97 years in the community of Hough Lake, northwest of Charlton. Her parents homesteaded on the banks of Cooked Creek. Her earliest memory was of the fire of 1922. She was 6 years old and could remember standing with her family by the neighbour’s wagon. They were going to go out to the road north of Charlton but at the last minute the wind changed and they stayed where they were. If they had gone out they would have gone right into the path of the fire. She and Dave were married in 1935 and purchased a small farm about 2 miles from her parents. Joyce lived there until August 2012 when she fell and suffered a fractured hip. Dave & Joyce worked hard to raise their 5 children and built up a successful beef herd. Joyce helped her husband with all the farming chores and they also ran a hunt camp and had a trapline. Joyce was an avid outdoors person and enjoyed fishing & hunting. She was a wonderful cook and always had a big vegetable garden and spent many happy hours working in her greenhouse where she grew tomatoes and cucumbers. She enjoyed watching curling and her beloved Blue Jays, she was up to date on all the statistics and enjoyed discussing the latest trade deals with her grandsons. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a woman with a great deal of determination and strength. She will be greatly missed by her family, she was a very loved and admired lady. Pre-deceased by her husband David, granddaughter Marissa Bailey and great grandson Ronald Swanson. She is survived by 4 sons Ron (Anne), Nelson (Sharon), Stephen (Maudy) and Basil (Brenda) and 1 daughter Laure (George – deceased) Bott She is also survived by her grandchildren David Bailey, Jennifer Bailey, Carrie Bailey, Tammy Swanson, Cheryl Swanson, Angela Bott, Paul Bott, Owen Bott, Sara Bailey and Shannon Bailey.
