Joseph NEIL Davreux,

JOSEPH NEIL DAVREUX,

2021

DAVREUX, Joseph NEIL (1931 – 2018)
With heavy hearts and tears of sadness, we announce the passing of our dear father and husband in his 87th year, at the Kirkland and District Hospital, on March 8, 2018.He will be missed by his cherished wife and life partner of 63 years, Lorraine (nee Scharff); his daughters– Lynn (Frank Spinato) Kirkland Lake, Beverly (Richard LaPorte) North Bay, Brenda (Whalen Hong) Englehart and Darlene (Joe Horne) Enfield, Nova Scotia; his beautiful granddaughters who adored him—Jennifer, Jessica (Donny), Emily (Kris), Vanessa (Brian) Joanna (Hassan), and Cristina (Chad); and great grandchildren, Kobe, Chris and Cara. Survived by sisters May Manshreck and Marion Morris, sister-in-law Marjorie Barrows and brother-in-law Maurice Hammond—all of Manitoba, numerous nieces and nephews and his good friend, Garry Allen. Predeceased by his parents Rene and Lena and siblings Cecil, Clarence, Margery, Vera, and Myrtle. He was born and raised on the family farm near Hartney, Manitoba. Growing up, he spent many hours working with his dad and two brothers in his dad’s shop engaging in mechanical work—an interest that turned into a hobby and a trade for him for the rest of his life. He, and Lorraine, with their two young daughters, moved to Ontario in 1958 to work for Cliff Scharff Trucking. He obtained his mechanic’s license and later worked for the Township of Larder Lake for 26 years, until his retirement. He was a resident of Larder Lake for 57 years and had been a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept., the Snowmobile Club and the Curling Club. Dad could be found most evenings and weekends in his backyard garage repairing many a car, truck, tractor, lawnmower (and almost anything that had a motor in it). Many people will have fond memories of good times spent in his garage. Dad valued family and there have been many memories made of family gatherings at Grandpa and Grandma’s house and of many family trips to visit relatives in Manitoba. He was fun, had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. He delighted in telling jokes and recounting comical stories of his childhood and of days gone by. He had many funny and favourite sayings that will be with us for many years to come. Dad enjoyed camping, fishing, antique farm tractors, blueberry picking, and growing his potatoes every summer—he always remained a farmer at heart. One of his favourite pastimes was gathering and splitting firewood for his woodstove which often turned into a family affair. His habit of whistling while he worked (well, mostly all the time) remained with him until his final days. He was caring and compassionate and loved children and dogs. We will miss his silly grins and his bright, blue eyes. We feel blessed to have had him in our lives. The family wishes to thank the 4th floor Palliative Care nurses and Betty Smallwood for their compassion and care. AquaCremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held.Celebration of Life:

When I was a teenager I worked the summers at Scarf’s and Neil showed me how to get started in life, fixing machinery and driving trucks. I liked that he was always calm, understanding, making a great teacher. My condolences to the family.

Dear Lorraine and girls. How fitting that the last time I saw Neil he was chopping wood. Typical Neil. We are so sad to hear of his passing. I’m sure he is sitting at a table with my parents and Marg Demers right now playing cards and making everyone smile with his infectious laugh. You are often in our thoughts. My condolences to Lorraine and family and to all the Davreux relatives. Mom (Alice) and I spent some happy hours in Larder Lake as we travelled eastward on a few vacations. Mom enjoyed spending time with relatives, even those a little more distantly related to her. Neil always checked my car before we were to continue on our journey so we knew things would not go wrong after he did his inspection. As we would continue our drive the next day, we always remarked on Neil’s great laugh which we enjoyed. Thank you Neil and Lorraine, for good memories.

To Mrs. Davreau, Bev and Richard and all the Davreau family we extended our deepest sympathies. A testimony to Neil is the emphasis that he (and Lorraine, of course) placed on strong family values, which garnered the love and admiration of his family. He will be greatly missed not only by his family, but by all who knew him. We are so fortunate to have had his influence on our family and in our lives. We loved his sense of humour. Thank you, Neil.
