NAGY, Joseph
Joseph Nagy passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 20, 2011, in his 76th year with his devoted wife Barb by his side. Joe was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and wife of 37 years Gwyneth (nee Roberts) of Fonthill, and his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Nagy of Fonthill. He is survived by his loving son Jamie (Lisa) and granddaughter Kaitlyn of Toronto. Also survived by three daughters and their families; Terri (Shane) Hewitt, their children Jaeden, Spencer, and Carter of Haileybury; Tracey Thisdelle (Kevin), their daughter Meghan of Calgary; Tia (Travis) Ehman, their daughter Gillian of Calgary. Joe will be dearly remembered by his brother Frank (Jackie) of St. Catharines and sister Darlene (Art Dean) of Wainfleet. Nieces and nephews, Marc Nagy, Chris (Missy) Nagy, Rod (Kate) Dean, Cari (Kevin) Kuhn. Barb's children and grandchildren, Steven L'Heureux (Jennifer Sweet) their children Brittany, Samantha and Alexandra; Sherri L'Heureux and her son Shawn will fondly remember and miss their Papa Joe. Joe was born in 1935 and spent many years working as a plumber in southern Ontario. In 1969 he made a career change and accepted a teaching position in Hearst where the family stayed for six years, and he developed a love for the north. In 1975 he and his family moved to New Liskeard where he taught at NLSS (TDSS) from 1975 to 1985. After retirement, he worked at a local plumbing supply company, as he enjoyed dealing with the public. He spent many very happy years at his cottage on the Quebec side of Lake Temiskaming, where he relished the outdoors, fishing, snowmobiling, and feeding all of God's wild creatures. He had a love for animals of all kinds and fostered and fed many stray cats over the years. He was a former member of the New Liskeard Branch of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. Joe was a very social man who much enjoyed his long chats with friends and neighbours. He will be sadly missed by lifelong friends from Fonthill and Hearst with whom he enjoyed storytelling and reminiscing. He would want us all to think of the good times and laugh. A special thank you to his PSW Annette, Rainbow Provider nurses, our family and especially Jennifer for all the care and support during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements by Perrin Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 25, at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. followed by a service at First Baptist Church in New Liskeard on Saturday, March 26 at 11 am, given by Pastor Bob McCarty. Donations would be kindly appreciated to the Bikers Reunion, Community Cancer Support in New Liskeard or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
