Harold Wilkinson of Elk Lake died November 22, 2010, at the Englehart and District Hospital following a short stay at Northview Nursing Home. He was born in Stockport, Cheshire, England, on November 21, 1925, to John Vernon Wilkinson and Annie (Grundy). Mr. Wilkinson moved from England to Canada as a young child. He worked as a master carpenter by trade and worked in the aircraft building industry as a plaster pattern maker. He served during World War II from November 8, 1943, to September 8, 1945. He received the Air Gunners Badge and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Following World War II, Mr. Wilkinson rejoined the Canadian Forces. He was one of the first men on site building the station at Alert and worked in the Arctic building the DEW line. He was an expert marksman, winning many shooting competitions at both the Elk Lake and New Liskeard gun clubs. An avid hunter and fisherman, who was still moose hunting in his early 80s, he was often accompanied by his wife Margaret. He was a member of the Sutton and Elk Lake branches of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Margaret Naismith (nee Gibson) Wilkinson, whom he married April 16, 1980, in Georgina, Ontario; daughter Pat Hall of British Columbia, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; son Kenneth Wilkinson of Sutton, Ontario, and two grandchildren; brothers Jack and Bob of Georgina; stepdaughters Sharon Six of Denver, Colorado, and Dee Peebles of Willow Beach.
