Grace Muriel Stewart (née Halsall),

GRACE MURIEL STEWART (NÉE HALSALL),

2021

August 30, 1924 – August 5, 2020It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mrs. Grace Muriel Florence Stewart (née Halsall), during the early morning hours of Wednesday August 5, 2020, at the Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.Grace was active in the United Church in Virginiatown. Many of her delicious pies found their way to the church. Later, when the United Church closed, she attended St. Paul’s Anglican Church. She was meticulous in everything she did including sewing, knitting, baking etc. She was postmistress in the town of Kearns from 1971 to 1988. She retired when her husband fell ill and became his caregiver. Later she joined the XYZ club and made many friends and had a great time playing cards, as well as attending the many dinners and celebrations that were held there.Grace had a wonderful sense of humour and when we got a giggle going it was hard to stop. She loved to travel, dance, sing, play cards, and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Oscar (1944) second husband Alexander Stewart (1988), parents Ruth and William Halsall, her sister Levina, brothers Rueban and Bill, great-grandson Nicolas Stewart. She will be greatly missed by her son Jim (Victoria) daughter Judy (Lloyd); her grandchildren James, Cheryl and Robert; and her great-grandchildren Kiera, Samuel, Violet and Nate and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at French Family Funeral Home.DONATIONS

We are so sorry to hear of Mrs Stewart’s passing, I remember her always praising us kids when she was at the post office in Kearns and never stopped praising us as we grew older, she was a joy to be around. I will always remember her smile. Rest in Peace Mrs Stewart. <3 The Daoust Family

Ive saddened to learn of Graces passing. Grace, a wonderful kind hearted soul that I had the honour to meet at T.P.R. when my grandmother lived there. We had splendid conversations and I quite enjoyed her company. She had a beautiful smile, heart felt laugh and a twinkle in her eye. Condolences to the family of Grace.

Deepest sympathies to the family. I have wonderful memories of opening the door to the post office and smelling whatever Mrs Stewart was cooking for dinner that night. She always took the time to peek out and talk to me.

It was with sadness that we heard of Grace’s passing. We had a couple of trips with her down to Southern Ontario. She made the trips just fly by. As a member of the XYZ club in McGarry she was instrumental in keeping the club alive. May the family memories of Grace be always close by.
