My thoughts go out to the Welch family during this time. I remember with great fondness meeting the entire Welch family when my sister Janine married into the your family and I gained a wonderful, fun and brilliant brother-in-law Fred. I remember the Welch storey of strength and perseverance, and the fortitude of Gordie during that time when Fred was only eight, and how an entire family united. I can only imagine the loss you are feeling and offer my deepest sympathy to you all.

Spent many nights in Security office with Gord at the mine when he was night shift supervisor. Great man and will surely be missed. His wed night cheeseburger dinner from Mc’ds, then about 2 am a gentle snoring coming from him as he rested his head on the printer. Let him have a little bit of a nap before making noise on purpose to wake him. He did wake up quick enough when the crusher operator screwed up though, glad I was never a crusher operator….. lol… RIP Gord my friend, I’m sure they have Smirnoff in heaven!!!!!

Your dad and I were very good friends growing up in Chapleau. He was at the wedding of my wife and I in 1969…some 46 years ago and we spent enjoyable times together at our place when we were at the University in Waterloo. Although we haven’t kept in touch in many years I have often thought of him and the good times we had….I recently passed through Gravenhurst on Hwy 11 going to a wedding in Timmins and recalled spending time with him in Gravenhust…when we were young and “foolish”. I expect you are aware of the Welch family upbringing but am not sure you are aware of how much of an impact your dad and several of your aunts were in keeping the family unit together…simply inspirational as I look back. You guys must be proud of your dad and I feel a great loss of a childhood friend…Dave and Brenda May ( I have a picture of your dad when he was 17…if you want it send me your address)

Dave and Brenda May, March 1, 2021
