MALES, Gordon

2017 - 2017

Mr. Gordon Ephraim Males died at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 10. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on February 15, entered the Temiskaming Hospital on Friday, February 24 and spent the last week of his life surrounded by family in the new Beverly-Ann Boros Palliative Care Suite. Gordon was born in New Liskeard, Ontario, on November 8, 1926 to Gordon and Gladys Males and was the third child of eight children. After returning from 2 years of Navel Service during World War II, Gordon took a job as a pressman at Temiskaming Printing, met and married Audrey Vivian Borgford, and built a house at 181 Montgomery Street where he and Audrey raised a family of four children. In 1972, Gordon suffered from chronic back pain and gave up his position as pressman at Temiskaming Printing and began a new career maintaining accounts at Armstrong Motors where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement, Gordon continued to pursue his love of planting, growing, preparing, and selling bedding plants to the local market until 2000. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church throughout his life and made many contributions to the church and its affiliations. As a loyal member of the local legion, he enjoyed contributing to its functions and socializing with its members. Gordon was a man devoted to his wife and family and enjoyed helping them wherever and whenever he was needed. In this he was more a man of action than words and believed living life well and responsibly was the best advice he could provide. He is survived by his wife Audrey; his children, Richard (wife Gaetane), Terry (wife Valerie), Janice (husband Ray), and David (wife Anne Marie); his siblings, Audrey Despres, Donald, Bertha McVittie, and Lloyd; his grandchildren, Dennis, Michelle, Melynda, Nareela, Kieran, Phillip, Luke, Trinity, Ava; his great grandchildren Teagan, Hailey, Tyra, Layla. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in New Liskeard on March 18 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Many thanks for the nursing care provided by the staff at Temiskaming Hospital. If desired, donations to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Temiskaming Hospital Care Close to Home will be gratefully acknowledged.
