WILSON, Gordon Joseph

1932 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon J. Wilson wish to inform you of his peaceful passing; at home; in the early morning of November 19, 2024 with his loving wife Shirley by his side; together they built a loving home for 72+ years.  Gordon was just shy of his 92nd birthday.

Gordon met Shirley when she was just 13 and he was 16 and they were inseparable from that day forward.

Gordon was a master at finding four leaf clovers and enjoyed many things throughout his years; including hunting, fishing, working on the farm, camping through Canada and the USA and woodworking, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family and attending numerous family functions or socializing with his many friends and neighbours in Virginiatown and area, as well as attending the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 384 Virginiatown, where he was a dedicated volunteer and life time member. There was always a smile for everyone he greeted and especially when he seen his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His one true passion always remained the love of his life; holding hands as they walked, and dancing every chance they got; their love will live on as a love we all yearn for.

Gordon started his work life at Hill Clark & Frances in New Liskeard; from there he went to the Mine in Matachewan, and Wright Hargraves in Kirkland Lake; then in 1957 he began working in Virginiatown at Kerr Addison Gold Mines and ended his career as Shift Boss when the mine closed after 32 years. In 1989 they became snowbirds splitting their time between Bahamas and home.

Gordon was born to William (Bill) & Wilhelmina (Flood) of Kenabeek and was the eldest son of 6 children at the family’s homestead. Predeceased by his parents; brothers George and Donald; brother-in-laws Amos Keith; Alex McMurray; John Webb; as well as daughter in law Helen Wilson (Hull); and great grandchildren Peyton and Max Guild. Also predeceased by many of Shirley’s siblings who were always near and dear to his heart.

Always remembered by his loving wife Shirley Wilson (Willard) his sons Bill (Sue); Steve and daughters Betty (Dave) Smallwood and Pat (Gabe) Spadetto. Grandchildren Tammy (Kyle); Elisa (Brent); Jaime (Brian); Will; Cynthia (Rob); Jennifer (Clint); Karen (Steve); Julia (Jeremy); Kristal (Aaron) and Jasmine (Mak).   Great Grandchildren Samantha, Madeleine, Calysta, Brielle, Abby, Elena, Liam, Sophia, Ev, Isabella, Jackson, Jeffery, Chloe, Aiden, Drake, Karli, Gabriele, Lucas, Dylan, Mason and Dani; and his beloved siblings brother Bruce (Twyla); and sisters Ruth Webb; Margaret McMurray and sister in law Rita Wilson.  Sister in laws Olive Thomas; Colleen Willard; Jan Willard and brother in law Ken Willard (Doris) and a multitude of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Interment will follow at Rosegrove Cemetery in Henwood Twp. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to TPR Palliative Care Program; 145A Government Rd. E, Kirkland Lake, On P2N 3P4

Gordon’s wish was for others to find Faith, Hope, Love and Luck; symbolized by his clovers.

Our four leaf clover; always with us!

Gordon's Gamily

It is with the most sincere thoughts and condolences that I hear of Gord's passing. He was one of the few shiftbosses at the Kerr Mine that I respected from the old days. His contributions to the Legion Branch 484 are a treasured memory. Rest now Gordon your shift is over.
