WRIGHT, Gladys ` Louise `

1924 - 2011

After a two week illness, Louise Wright died on April 30 2011. She was born in Hilliardton on June 7, 1924 to Charles and Alta Holley and raised in Tomstown. She lived in Hilliardton, Timmins and Englehart over the years. Mrs. Wright was a Junior Ranger cook, worked at the Englehart Esso, the Englehart and District Hospital and raised seven children. As a member of the Armed Forces she trained as a Dental Assistant in North Bay during World War II. She married Albert Wright in Virginiatown on March 14 1946. Throughout her life, Mrs. Wright was known for her generosity, and personal strength. She shared her home with whomever needed a place to rest and a hot meal. Her children’s friends were treated like her own and sleepovers were the norm. Her strength and courage was phenomenal. When a fire destroyed the couple’s home and they lost all their personal possessions as well as losing her youngest son in the fire, she picked up the pieces of her life and carried on. She rarely complained or raged but accepted and moved on. Mrs. Wright was known for her terrific sense of humour and put fun and laughter into anything she did. She was renowned for her cooking and baking abilities. She spent many years as a cook at the Englehart Hospital and local restaurants as well as making her famous “buns” for many events. Her creativity was well- known ranging from decorating wedding cakes to prize-winning Halloween costumes. She wrote many poems over the years and kept up a running correspondence with her sister Wanda. She grew up in a large family where she learned the value of a dollar. She could cook anything “from scratch” and made ‘new’ clothing from old. Money was not important to Mrs. Wright, but her family was. Mrs. Wright was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Alta Holley, her husband Albert Wright, her son Colin, sons-in-law Dan Ryan and Bill Innes, her siblings, Edith Elliott, Ilene Price, Gordon Holley and Clair Holley. She is survived and sadly missed by her children, Colleen (Stan) Walker, Charlie Wright and Cathy (John) Taylor, Kevin Wright, Connie Innes and Khrystle Ryan. Mrs. Wright is fondly remembered by 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
