To: the Hochfellner Family: We are very sorry to hear of Gertrude’s death. She was always so interesting and enjoyable to talk with–usually at the grocery store. The conversations with her ranged on almost any topic but usually centered on “my boys” and “my Carl”. It is more tragic that this occurred so soon after Carl’s passing. So sad-we will miss her. Carl and John and family-our condolences.–Brian and Gale

So very sorry to hear of the passing of your mum. My late husband, Butch and your dad did business together and I always looked forward to the times when he would have to drop product off at the house so that we could have a quick chat with your mum & dad. Sherry Faulkner

Carl, John and family. Heartfelt sympathies are sent to all of you on learning of the loss of your mother. The Ellies family has so many incredible memories of her, your dad and Brian at the ski hill. Always caring, making us laugh. It was never the same when they were not there to ski and brighten the day. She will be missed. We will keep you in our prayers. Warmly, Lisa and family.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother. Beaver Drive will be a much more lonely street without Gertie. She was an amazing woman who could show up the best of men in this world. It was never unusual to find her outside shoveling snow at 5 am. She would be well ahead of the town plow and the fellow who plowed her driveway. If you ever wanted an education on shovels Gertie was the one to go to. She knew the value of every shovel on the market and the same was true of rakes. There was nothing Gertie wouldn’t tackle to keep her home and property in top notch condition. To Gertie her family was everything and over the years we had many conversations in which she would boast with pride about each of her children and their families. She loved her grandchildren dearly and so often she would laugh and tell me how much Matthew loved her chocolate chip cookies. I would love to say Rest in Peace Gertie but in all honesty I can’t ever see Gertie resting when there is work to be done. As she watches over you all here I have no doubt that she will be keeping herself busy with her heavenly family. You will be greatly missed Gertie!

Carl, John and families. We are so very sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Such a beautiful person. I have so many great memories of her sitting with Eli. She would rock and hold him and tell me stories of when she and your dad first moved to Canada. They struggled so much but achieved so very much too. I was fortunate enough to be her companion as she shopped for her fur coat. We had so much fun and she looked regal whenever she wore it. Isaac and I last saw her at Kinross Pond. The first thing from his mouth when he spotted her was “carrot cake”. She was so proud to show us where one of your dad’s carvings is hid. They had such a beautiful partnership. Our hearts go out to you. Noella, Eli and Isaac

Carl , John and Family. It was with a great deal of sadness that we learned of Gertrude’s death. On behalf of the Raven Lake Cottagers’ Association and both of us personally, we offer our deepest condolences to your family. Your Dad and Mom had become great friends in recent years and were avid supporters of the work of our association and were always eager to share stories and the history of Raven Lake. Your mom’s energy and enthusiasm for “work” was truly remarkable and we all enjoyed our visit with her at the annual picnic at Raven Lake this summer …she really loved our sausages!! She will be sadly missed. Hal & Judy Humphries Cottagers – Raven Lake Cottagers’ Association Gravenhurst ON

Wow tottaly lost for words… I Grew up next door to Carl & Gertie on Beaver dr. I can remeber when they bought the property and built there home which still looks as in good of shape as it did when they built it. Gertie was most definitely the most hard working woman I have ever seen in my life boy she could work. If she wasn’t hand scraping the drive way to bare pavement all winter long going through countless shovels. She would be garndening, Cutting Fire wood, baking you name it she could do it . And after she did all that she would come and whip me and my younger brother into shape to clean up the mess we made and help us with the gardening that needed to be done in our yard lol.. That is untill it was time for Carl to come home for lunch or supper then she would run home to make sure meals were ready on time lol . I often joked with her about taking her home to be my wife . But for as long as I can remeber she was like a grandmother to me and she often joked about that too We could not ask for better neighbours , they were like family to us Will definitely miss yah Gertie I’m sure your happy to be with Carl and brian again. Watching down on your family grow . And I’m sure your feeding all our dogs your leftovers up there hahaha Love Jeffrey Pegg

Karl, John, Lee, Heather ,Pam and children, We are very sorry to hear of Gertrude’s passing. She and Karl were good friends with whom we spent many fun times at Raven Mt. and at the cottage, and after we moved west, skiing at Whistler. Gertrude made the best schnitzel and desserts, and although she gave me some of her recipes, mine just don’t taste the same as hers did. She also loved to chat. One time she and I were so deep into conversation we forgot to get off the lift at Whistler. It will be strange to visit Kirkland and not plan time with Gertrude. Our deepest sympathy to you. With love, Sarah, Henry and Brenda
