GAIL MCKELVEY (NÉE LITTLE),

2021

McKELVEY, Gail (née Little)It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gail McKelvey (née Little) on Wednesday October 16th, 2019 at the Kirkland and District Hospital at the age of 76. Gail is survived by her husband Bill of 52 years, her son Robbie (Athena), daughter Tracy (Todd) and her five precious grandchildren Austin (Coral), Ella, Tianna, Jamoss and Adam. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law June Hodge (Harry), Peggy Little, many nieces and nephews, as well as her dearest friend and partner in crime; Claire Schonfeldt. She was predeceased by her parents Jamie and Mona Little and her brother Walter Little.Gail had a truly giving heart; she made it her lifelong mission to help others. She started her career as a pediatric nurse, but gave this up to be a stay at home Mom. Later when Tracy and Robbie weren’t quite as dependent on Gail, she was one of the original founders of our local food bank. Through her involvement with the food bank, she quickly recognized that some of the most vulnerable, our infants, were in desperate need of basic essentials. Gail decided to start her “Little” Assistance Program to provide struggling families with formula, baby food, diapers, etc. Gail managed to secure monthly donations from local service clubs and generous individuals, as well as strong support from local businesses. Gail ran this program for over a decade, feeding hundreds of local infants. Her family members have often been approached over the years by recipients of her Little Assistance Program emphasizing how much Gail had helped them when they had needed help the most.Gail enjoyed life to the fullest and spent nearly every summer of her life at her “happy place”; her family cottage on Sesekinika Lake. Her best summers were undoubtedly the years her grandson Austin came for extended visits. The family would like to thank the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence for the amazing care she received over the last five years, as well as to Dr. McPherson and staff at the Kirkland and District Hospital for making her last days comfortable. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Betty Smallwood and the palliative care staff.A Celebration of Gail’s life well lived will take place at her cottage next summer.DONATIONS:

Bill, Robbie & Tracey So sorry for your loss- my heart goes out to all of you. Ive known Gail since grade seven. She was a beautiful kind person in so many ways. I remember the fun times when we were both living in Kingston. She was also my maid of honour fifty-four years ago. I was so happy I was able to have a nice visit with her this past summer. She will truly be missed by so many.

So sorry to hear of Gail’s passing. It has been a long time since I have been in KL but I remember her and her parents. My dad worked for Teck Motors and at one time my mom was the Little’s cleaning lady. She will certainly rest in peace and their beloved cottage.
