In loving memory of Mrs. Frieda Pearce, who passed away at the Extendicare Nursing Home in Haileybury on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the age of 96. Frieda Pearce was born in North Cobalt but raised on a farm on Elk Lake Highway. Her parents’ names were Edward and Margaret Decker. Her father had a trade working with glass while her mother had a full time job raising ten children. Frieda’s first job was working for Dr. J. S. McCullough, in New Liskeard, doing general housework which included cooking and baking. She married Ernest Pearce in her early 20’s. He worked at Wabi Iron Works until retirement. Together they raised 4 children. She was predeceased by Carolyn Alberta and will be missed by Margaret (Pastor George Paraskevopoulos), Barbara (David Miller and David (Kathleen), a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Following her marriage, Frieda took a St. John’s Ambulance course to further her knowledge. She also attended night school for 2 years trying to learn Parisian French. Her hobbies included making quilts, braiding rugs, knitting, gardening, fishing and playing cards. She was one of the first residents to move into the new Northdale Manor Retirement Home and really loved living there. Needing some extra care she moved into Extendicare in March of 2015 before she died on Tuesday Nov. 24th. The family is grateful to both homes for their assistance over the years, especially Dr. Davies and the nursing staff at Extendicare for making her final months comfortable. The family of the late Frieda Pearce will receive friends and family on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at the Perrin Funeral Chapel from 1 pm until time for the service at 2 pm. If desired, donations to St. Paul's United Church or Multiple Sclerosis will be gratefully acknowledged.
