Was just talking to her Friday past.! I would visit while going through Kearns from the Border. I remember her from Gabriella times and the wonderful odors in the house after school. Again she offered bulbs and garlic and… said she was willing to cook some more spaghetti sauce just for the Breen’s She was such a great, funny lady I will forever remember her signing herself… Holy Mother of God,+ or Santa Maria Me ! + Goodby Mrs. Floriana xx Our prayers travel with her to her garden in Havens. Hi Lucy, Gabe and family…. I am sorry to hear of your great loss but I am happy that your mom is now with your sister and Leo and all of those she held near and dear to her heart that had predeceased her… I have so many fond memories of your mom, and Leo….Many from when I was a kid and we owned the “Bright Spot” in Kearns… Your mom was alway’s in the garden and she would give us a carrot or something that she just yarded out of the earth….Then when my dad died and we moved next door….well holy mother of God, she became our surrogate mother! And all of us kids, loved her!! One day when I was sick with some kind of flu and was certain I was dying, your mom called me over and pulled out the frying pan and put some cut up apples in it and fried them with brown sugar, and then added red wine and boiled it and then told me to drink it down, and go back home and get straight to bed.( I was 11)…..I did what I was told, and by the next day, all symptoms were gone, I was feeling great, and I was back at your mom’s eating mushrooms in oil that she had just canned in jars, and feasting on spaghetti… God it was good!! So many memories, but my latest was a few years back…. I flew back and my sister and I took my mom on a road trip back to K.L. ( to pick blueberry’s).. Of course the first person we thought of was your mom and we headed to Kearns for a visit…. I will never forget when she opened the door and saw me and my sister……She muffled a scream and sat on her steps in shock crying, and then stood up and gave us a big hug ( like time had never passed) and then said..” Where’s your momma?” Momma was in the car and wouln’t get out for a glass of wine, but we had a really nice visit for the time we were there….. I will alway’s have the deepest respect for your mom…” Mrs. Spadetto”…….She was a true icon in our little town of Kearns, and she was a big part of my youth and shaped how I became as an adult… You were fortunate to have such a caring, loving, creative, original and funloving mom, and we were all blessed to have her in our lives, as a mentor. May all the great memories of your mom that live in your heart, keep you and your family comforted while you navigate through this time of grief…. I am sure your mom is entertaining the angels and teaching those that can’t garden, how to do it up in heaven….. Sending big hugs and condolences to you and your family, Much love, Deborra Harney-Gregor

Deborra Harney-Gregor, March 1, 2021

Gabriele, Lucy and families: My deepest sympathy in the loss of your Mom. I met your mom when I would bicycle over to your house in Kearns to hang out with Gabriela back in the 60s. Once I accidentally crushed a couple plants when I tossed my bike down on the walkway and believe me I never forgot the scolding, I just didn’t understand the language, but I sure got the meaning. I knew then she accepted me. She was a gem! Ellen
