ROMAIN, Emile – Passed away peacefully at the age of 78 years young at the Kirkland & District Hospital with his family at this side.  Born in Matachewan on December 6, 1941 to Elieth and Leonne Romain. He began his mining career at the age of 18 years old. He worked in mines across Canada until 1974 when he returned to the town he loved, to take care of the family business, Romain’s Variety.  During his 20 years of operating Romain’s Variety,  he had love and respect for all his employees and customers. He helped many families around the community with donations of items from the store. In 1995, he returned to mining until his retirement in 2013. Emile was a man of few words and many jokes. He had unconditional love for all and a willingness to help anyone anytime. He has touched the hearts of many and will be missed.Emile was predeceased by his mother Leonne Romain (née Leroux) and his father Elieth Romain, his brother Leo (Chummy) Romain, his sister Leona McKay (née Romain), his nephew Ricky Joseph and his niece Judy Cormier.Emile is survived by his children Sherrilynn Romain, Michael Romain (Nicole), Naomi Bisson (Sylvain) and Jason Bisson; grandpa to Jonathan Welch, Ryan Millen, Bryanna Romain, Emily Romain and Shelby-Lyn Romain; pépé to Shaynna Landry (Dan), Zander Rondeau and Liam Methe; brother to Don Romain (Lillian), Eddie Romain (Terry), Alice Plowe (Dal), Eric Romain (Judy) and dear brother-in-law Glen McKay; uncle to Debbie, Thrina, Emile, Derrick, Darren, Denise, Nicole, Angelle, Michelle, Lorraine, Diane/Perry, Shelley, Candace, Mark, Valerie and Lorrie. Linda Romain and Suzanne Bisson, mothers to his children.  He will be deeply missed by his dearest friend Albert Durand as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.Celebration of Life:

So Sorry to hear of Emile passing. Condolences to Family & Friends. I remember when he hired me to work at Romaines Variety, I think it was about 4 hours 3 days a week, I Thank him for that & yes we did laugh alot! RIP Emile

At one unique time, the folks of Matachewan Ontario bought anything they may have needed ~ from Romains. As 7 yr olds in the late 1970s, we used to buy penny candy & he had a ton of patience for us as we tried to decide what to get. Remember those tiny boxes of chocolate milk from Archers Dairy? They were $0.25 at Romains & Id buy one every Wednesday morning, as a treat for my school lunch. The milk would always be waiting for me on Emiles well-worn counter ~ he knew I would always be in around 8:30am each Wednesday. He made me feel like an important customer even though I was only 7. Im going to tell my young son about him. Emile was a fun part of growing up in Matachewan. He will be missed.
