My condolences to the Havrot family. Although I did not know Ed for a long time, my meetings with him left a lasting impression. He was a person that made a difference in all that he did.

Condolences from the “Angus Clan” in King Kirkland. Our late mother Winnie Angus / father Orval Angus and Ed had a very clansman like connection with advocating for Northerns for their families, friends and respective communities. I have very fond memories of Ed coming into our restaurant; then post office; then home front to ” consult/inform/ update…” Mom/Dad on vital Northern Ontario issues. I really enjoyed see Ed at Trinity United when the “Angus girls -Carol,Sharon and me” went to church with Aunt Millie (Cameron) when we came home for family visits. His frankness, determination, dedication to all are only touching the surface of what a fine and vibrant man Ed was and will remain to those who knew, respected and loved this authentic / true blue Northern Gentleman.

To the Havrot family and Friends: I served with Ed in the Legislature form 1977 to 1985. I found Ed to be a hard working, informed and plain-spoken MPP. He was very knowledgeable of the mining, tourist and forestry industries of Northern Ontario. After I was appointed to the Davis Cabinet in 1981, I would often consult with him on Northern issues to get the straight goods (as he would put it). Ed was in constant communication with all of his his constituents regardless of their status and standing in the community. I particularly enjoyed having lunch with him in the Legislative Dining room as he would always have a good story to tell. I enjoyed his friendship and will always remember our times together.

Norman Sterling. MPP 1977-2011., March 1, 2021

Thanks Norm

Gayle Havrot, March 1, 2021

Ed was a great Kirkland Laker with a great sense of community and even greater sense of humour. Just last year we stood together on a cold November 11th morning at the Kirkland Lake Cenotaph honoring our lost veterans. RIP Ed.

Ed was a great help to me as a new member sitting beside him in the legislature. Good man, good MPP, good sense of humour and will be missed by family and friends.

I lived across the street from the bakery, when unexpected company arrived for a meal we would run across the street for more bread. Oh yes and on Saturdays afternoon we would often be given a free donut. Ed was not there often but when he was he loved to chat with us kids. Nice memories, condolences to the family.

Vibrant memories of Mr. Havrot, throughout all my time in KL. I remember the bakery and the great bread. I especially remember his drive and passion to improve everyone’s life by actively talking part in the councils and parliaments. I’d meet Ed so many times on my return visits. Always positive and realistic. Typically right to the point. Loved our brief talks at Tim’s. Great guy who loved the people of the north and Kirkland Lake. He will be missed. Loved his family always. I am so sorry for the passing of Ed. Ed (Mr. Havrot) may your journey continue with all your friends who share a seat at the Tim’s above.

We send our condolences to Gayle & family . Our history with the Walter little family & Eddy goes back to the lumber days in Kirkland lake. He was a great family friend to all, after Georgina little died he sent our family a letter she had hand written him to congratulate him on his election win. John & I helped with one of his election campaigns so long ago but throughout the years he remembered johns birthday . We were in Kirkland lake last fall & got to visit him in hospital, he always brought a smile to my face, he was one of a kind & will make heaven a lively place.

My sincere condolences to the Havrot Family. Ed’s kindness to our family will never be forgotten. He will be missed. Barb Kiely and Ian Salonius

Barb Kiely, March 1, 2021

I remember Ed in his late eighties standing on a chair at the front of Trinity Church outside sanding down the front doors in preparation for a new coat of paint. I might as well not have bothered to mention to him that we should get someone else to do it or that a ladder might be safer. Ed did not believe that age should be a deterrent if he had his mind set on accomplishing something. I also remember his kindness in visiting my mother , Isabelle McChesney, when she had her stroke and bringing beautiful flowers. Ed will be a power house in heaven as well I suspect. We will miss you, Ed.

Beverley McChesney-Rumble, March 1, 2021
