ROBERTSON, Dorothy

1934 - 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Mae Robertson on Thursday, September 17th, 2020 at the Temiskaming Hospital. Dorothy is pre-deceased by her husband Alexander (Zannie) Robertson and her parents Gordon and Ella May Brown of New Liskeard. Dorothy is survived by two children John (Jennifer) Robertson of Englehart, Ontario and Deb (Todd) Harrington and two Grandsons Ted and Thomas Harrington of St. Ann’s, Ontario. Dorothy is also survived by a loving sister Elaine (Bill) Glassford of New Liskeard. Dorothy was born in Toronto in 1934 and moved to Northern Ontario with her parents when she was 10 years old. She left school early and worked at Gibson’s Red and White in New Liskeard. She was a fixture at the store for many years. Her times with the Gibsons and their clientele were cherished memories. On April 14th 1962, she married the love of her life, Alexander “Zannie” Robertson and welcomed John (1966) and Deborah (1972) to their Clan. They raised their family in Englehart and Dorothy became well known for her volunteering and duty to the Community at large. Dorothy was an active member of the Englehart Agricultural Society, The Canadian Cancer Society, and the Terry Fox Run. Her commitment to volunteering was infectious and her motivation inspiring. Dorothy also worked for Spencer Jeweler’s and then became a regular in the auction office at Robertson Sales. Her main occupation was as a Mother, and there was none better. At age 68, she finally became a Grand Mother. “My Boys”, as she called them, kept her going and being a “Nana” was a completion to a wonderful life. In the past few years, Dorothy was fortunate to be part of the wonderful family of residents and staff at the Northdale Manor. We are forever greatful to everyone at the Manor … it is a wonderful place. Family would also like to thank Dr. Corneil, nurse Lyn and nurse Emily of the Temiskaming Hospital for their impeccable care and compassion Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. Visitation will take place at the McDonald Funeral Home Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 7pm-9pm. A Celebration of Life for Dorothy will take place as an open-air service at her grave side on Monday, September 21, 2020 Englehart Cemetery (1st Street) at 11am. All may attend with COVID precautions encouraged. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy’s family would encourage donations to The Northdale Manor www.northdalemanor.ca or to Community Cancer Care New Liskeard www.communitycancercare.ca.
