KONOPASKI, Dorothy – the family regrets to announce, Dorothy passed away at the age of 77, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Kirkland & District Hospital. Dorothy is survived by: her son, Shawn (Kim); grandchildren, Miranda and George: sisters, Edna (Don) Mills and Mary Scott; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a fighter and wanted to live. Even though she had cancer for over 2 decades, she appreciated what life had to offer and did everything within her power to stay alive. She enjoyed her time spent in both the Horticultural Club and the Encore Club. Dorothy could often be found with friends at the Kirkland Lake Tim Hortons. Her thirst for life and fighting spirit remained to the end; even on the day of her death, Dorothy insisted that her family bring clothing to the hospital for her to wear home. She will be remembered. I didn’t know Dorothy well, but enough to know she was a very special lady. I first met Dorothy, with her friends Elsie and Hazel, at the horticultural meetings; then we spent time together at the oncology clinic at KDH when we were both undergoing treatment in 2010. She fought for years and I am so sorry she lost the battle. Treasure your memories. With my sincere sympathy!

I will miss Her smiling face at Tim”s when we had coffee, but my memory that keeps me going is that She got to come to the Strawberry Tea at t.p.r. with Elsie and I. She was smiling and enjoying Her cake!!!!I”ll miss you forever Dorothy. Rest in peace. Till we meet again. Love Julia xxxooo

I met Dorothy through the Horticulutural Society. She would come out and help out at various events, telling her stories and jokes. She struck me as a very strong person, doing her part to make things better. We will miss her.
