In loving memory of Doris Violet Page Macdonald Remus who passed away peacefully at home with her children and devoted husband Mervin Remus by her side on Saturday November 1, 2014 at the age of 76. She is pre-deceased by her first husband Norman William Macdonald and her parents Robert & Ila Page. Doris grew up on a small farm in Hills Lake and often revisited the cherished homestead accompanied by a couple of her children each time. She learned that being a hard worker was essential to the needs of the family as she and her sister Verna had to fetch the drinking water and carry it up the big hill to their house. When a large stray dog came onto their farm they befriended it and in return the dog happily pulled the toboggan which carried the pail of water. Doris was a provider and a mentor. Using her talent for dressmaking she sewed dresses and outfits for her girls and when they were old enough introduced them to sewing. Doris’ oldest daughter loved it so much that she didn’t want to learn other homemaking skills, like cooking. ‘Well you can’t eat needles and fabric so you better learn!’ This was just one of the many sayings that Doris would use to make a point. Doris was a great cook! She readily shared her baking tips with who ever wanted to try their hand at it. Special birthday cakes baked containing coins wrapped in foil created excitement as it was served! This was just another way she liked to make things fun. Doris was young at heart. Although stern and strict when she needed to be, she also liked to laugh and have fun with her children. Doris was a caring Aunt who held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed their coming to visit and sharing their stories of life. She looked forward to the springtime when she could get back to working in her flower gardens. Her flowers always displayed her personality, bright and beautiful. Even though she didn’t think so, Doris had a green thumb for gardening. Ask her what her favourite flower is and she will tell you ‘roses’. Last fall with a strong spirit and unable to do it herself, she asked her family to prune and prepare for the spring blossoms. That gave her hope. Doris was a graceful and elegant lady who lived life to the fullest. She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother who loved and was loved by her children. She will be dearly missed by her husband Mervin & children Brenda, Delbert, John, Deborah, Lycia, Lloyd, Kimberly, Wilma, Corrine, Teresa & Trueman & step-children Faye & Steven, sisters Verna, Carolyn & Shirley, brother in laws, Fred & Gordon and many grandchildren & great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank Dr Lacasse for her compassion and the Community Care Access Centre for their excellent support. A memorial service will be take place on Saturday November 8, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Charlton Cemetery, Charlton ON. Ven Rev Linda White officiating.
