After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Darlene Ames passed away June 6, 2020 at the Health Sciences North complex in Sudbury, with her loving husband, Garry Ames, at her side. She is survived by two children, Darren Loiselle (Amy) and Shawna Loiselle (Dave Livingston) and six grandchildren – Halie Mitchell, Sierra Livingston, McKenna Livingston, Meggan Loiselle, Nicholas Loiselle and Matthew Loiselle. She is also survived by sisters Shirley Blackburn (William, deceased) and Valerie Flowers (David) and sister-in-law Jean Maguire (Wayne, deceased) and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Florence & Holace Maguire, sister Jean Thompson and brother Wayne Maguire. A lifelong resident of Englehart, she had a wide circle of friends, with shared interests in ski-dooing and boating, fast cars and good music. She enjoyed working with the students at the Gwen School in New Liskeard and then ventured into business as the owner and operator of D&R Variety in Charlton. After her marriage to Garry, she assumed supervisory responsibilities with Ames Contracting to manage the construction workers at the Frog’s Breath golf course. She was known for her warm, generous nature and her willingness to entertain friends and family alike. She had a very positive outlook, and was determined to make the most of every day. After travelling for several years and enjoying their motorhomes, Darlene & Garry chose to spend the winters at Sun N Fun Resort in Florida. That became her “happy placeâ€. The close friends she developed there, were cherished until the end. She will be sadly missed by all. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, there will be a private funeral for Darlene on Wednesday June 10, 2020 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. Interment will follow at the Englehart Cemetery. Online condolences may be left on the Funeral Home website (www.mcdonaldfuneralhome.ca). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Englehart & District Hospital Hospice (Palliative Care Unit) or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
