Dan will likely be playing pool in the happy hunting grounds. He was a wizard on the snooker table. Fond remembrances from our days in the Federal and more recent dinners together. Always generous to help those with computer problems he was the creator of a giant website that was ahead of its' time. A superb photographer, his pictures of rock specimens were noted in the mining community. There is a special place in his heart for Alex. Dan will be long be remembered in the old hometown.

Dan and I were friends for over 40 years. We had many laughs on the water and in Matachewan. He will be deeply missed and hope the wonderful memories will provide comfort during this sad time.

The Porteous Family and his loved ones

My condolences to all of Dan's family and loved ones. He has been a solid fixture in my life since I was a teen and a good friend to my late father over the years. We took massage therapy classes together, worked together at my dads store where he taught me much about computers (when DOS was an operating system lol). We babysat Chum his lovely dog and enjoyed dinners and visits at each others homes over the years. Ill never forget him bring me dried up "beaver nuts" to help me get over a cold (lol!) and sharing info on the latest "tinctures" for healthy living. I will miss his sly jokes, his carefree ways and neverending search for knowledge in all things nature. He will truly be missed.

My deepest condolences go out to all who knew Dan. He was a very caring person and his thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. I remember a time I the 90s he was way ahead of everyone when it came to computers and technology. Rest easy Dan and say hello to Don for us. I know you two will be playing pool and having some laughs.

An honest man here lies at rest,
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so inform'd;
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.

Dan

Your friendship over the years was so very much appreciated Dan and I have only this minute on
May 18,23 come to learn of your passing. A young friend of my son Andrew, who you came to know, has had a heart attack at age 36 and I immediately thought of you, wanting some sage advice from one who was experienced in these matters. So sorry to have lost you my friend! A bientot!
