My heartfelt belated condolences to all family & friends of beloved Colin Michael “Shag” O’Shaughnessy. I also extend my deep & sincere apologies on behalf of myself & my son Michael for being unfortunately unable to attend the funeral of Michael’s beloved dad Colin. Due to unavoidable health & financial problems we were obliged to grieve on our own, apart from all of those who were fortunately able to attend. He will be forever loved & missed. Sue O’Shaughnessy

When Shag needed to look something up on a computer, he would come in and see me….I remember the time when he sent some of his gold chains away to be appraised..you know those commercials you would see on TV….put it in the bag drop it in the mail, they would tell you what it’ would be worth and they would send it back to you if you didn’t agree with their price! Well Shag certainly didn’t agree with what they thought it was worth and it took longer than he thought it should for them to send it back….we always shared a laugh or two when he came in to pay his water bill….We will miss him!

…to add to the story on the Price of Gold: Shag always said, “when the price of gold hits $1000 – 1200/ounce..” I would roll my eyes and say “sure, in your dreams”. Well, only his timing was off.

Shag worked with us at Town Hall a few years ago…he would be the summer replacement and we had a lot of laughs. When he wasn’t working he would stop in every once in awhile with some Hermit cookies for us to enjoy, R.I.P. my friend….you will be missed

Shag was my late husband (Smokie) Gordon’s cousin. Their mothers were sister Vie, and Gladys. Rest in peace Shag, your trials are all laid to rest now. Kathryn MacLeod

My sincerest sympathies on your loss of your Dad. I know that distances can often separate families, but I know that Shag’s boys David, Greg, and Michael were always in his heart and on his mind.

We got to know Colin well when as newly married couples we lived in the same apartment building. We always enjoyed his good nature and his sense of humour. Our condolences to his family–he was a good guy!

Shag and I worked together at the Macassa Mine for almost ten years and a next door neighbour for awhile. He always found a way to find the humorous side of life and lived life his way. Rest in peace old buddy.

I could see the end was near, as I was in regular contact by telephone. A finer person would be hard to find, as Shag (Shaggy) was kind, lighthearted, generous, supportive, fun – with a sense of humour that would make anyone laugh. I know how frustrated he was at not getting answers to his health problems, but he said he ‘wasn’t hurting’ and that makes me glad. Shaggy, may you golf among the clouds and throw dice with the angels – ever smiling and sharing your lovely sense of humour with your buddies in heaven, if there is one. If there is a heaven, this is where you must be now.

For several years, Shag was a part of our family and always a gracious host when I would come home to visit. I will never forget this very kind and gentle man. Rest in Peace

âColin was more than an uncle to me. He was also my godfather. A role that he took very seriously. Every year for my birthday (sadly this year – the day after he passed), until I was 16 or so, he would send me the Royal Canadian Mint coin set to mark the year. These were very special to me – and meant a lot. I do admit in my teenâs âbreaking in to themâ? â to buy cigarettes, or something equally stupid, but then feeling so terrible about it, I later went out and replaced what I could. I still have these coin sets today â 30 + years later â and they still mean what they did then â very treasured!! Unfortunately, as you get older, you tend to drift away from people â time and great distances did this, â it has been years since I got the chance to sit down and talk, but I always looked forward to seeing uncle Colin âThe Godfatherâ? at family events, or thru pictures – just to see how he was doing. You take for granted how much time you have â cliché I know â but often life events tend to overcomplicate our existences, and we never get the chance to do all we intend â for Colin that was to say thanks again for the attention â you were/are still âgoldenâ? to me.â? Rest in Peace. GC
