AXCELL, Charles 1940-2017: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Charles (Charlie) Axcell on November 25, 2017 at the age of 77. Charlie was predeceased by his parents John & Daisy Axcell, brothers Donnie Axcell, Robert Axcell and his sisters Helen Carter and Daisy Burnes. Left to mourn is his loving wife of 55 years, Sarah Axcell. He also leaves behind his daughter Kelley (Tommy) Smith and his son Kevin (Dawn) Axcell, his brothers Bill Axcell, Reg (Shirley) Axcell, Larry (Jean) Axcell, Richard (Colleen) Axcell and sisters Joan (Murray) Cooper and Ann Bradshaw and his sister-in-law Bonnie Axcell. He will also be remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. After working with the railway for a short time, Charlie moved to Ottawa where he attended police school and later met his wife, Sarah. He worked briefly with the Ottawa police department and married Sarah in 1962. In 1966 they moved back to Kirkland Lake where Charlie joined the Teck Township Police Force and later the Town of Kirkland Lake Police Department. After 33 years of service he retired in 1993. In his spare time during retirement he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was also well known for sharing his many stories from his days of being a police officer. We would also like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of the Kirkland & District Hospital for their tireless care and dedication to Charlie and his family. Dear Kevin and Family, We want to send our deepest sympathy for the loss of Charlie. Fond memories of him getting pine wood from us to make his wooden crafts. We even have a big Pileated woodpecker that he made. Our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time.

Don and I extend our most sincere condolences. Charlie was my supervisor before I joined the OPP. Charlie was always fair, looked out for his guys n gals, loved a good joke and telling an even better story. Im sure I never heard the same one twice. To Charlies family … a man who lived a good life, a man who accomplished much and truly one of the most mischievous co workers Ive ever worked with.
