Oja, Charles With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Charles at the Temiskaming Hospital on October 29, 2009 in his 73rd year. He was born March 1, 1937 in Rouyn, Quebec to William and Hilja (nee Koski) Oja. Left to mourn is his wife of almost 50 years Evelyn (nee Verdon) and his three children: Shelly-Ann Oja Karpul, Derek (Ardith) and Jason. He married Evelyn on March 10, 1960 in Kirkland Lake. Charles worked for Bell Paper in Kirkland Lake for 9 years then for Dupont of Canada Explosives (later known as ETI) until his retirement. They then moved to Dymond Township where Evelyn still resides. Charles was a member of the Dymond Fire Department. He loved to play the accordion and the harmonica; he was also a committed member of the Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club, where he competed in cross-country ski races; he also enjoyed weight lifting, cycling, dancing , jogging but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is also survived by many cousins, great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family at the Perrin Funeral Chapel 128 Whitewood Avenue, New Liskeard on Monday June 28, 2010 from 12 - 2 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. from the Perrin Funeral Chapel Ltd.
