SHERRITT, Carl

1920 - 2009

Carl Wellington Sherritt Died peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) with family by his side. Loving husband of Ellen (Nellie) Wadge for 64 years. Beloved father of Bruce (Lorraine), Richard, Brian (Denise) and Jane (Andre Godin). Proud grandfather of Duane (Michelle) Sherritt and Lorri-Anne (James Moyer), Renee and Carly Sherritt, Sydney and Corbyn Godin. Great-grandfather of Braeden and Jenna Sherritt. Also survived by his sister Alice Jibb, sisters-in-law Jean Champagne and Agnes Sherritt, Bessie Wadge and brother-!n-law Clarence Wadge. Predeceased by sisters Lily Willard and Mandy Goddard, and brothers James and John. Dad found pleasures in the simple things in life - fishing by the creek, whistling a tune while tinkering on an engine, working in his vegetable garden, buzzing his firewood or driving his David Brown tractor. He loved to read the newspaper "cover to cover" and liked nothing better than a good discussion with anyone willing to talk. When he was a teenager he saved his earnings to buy a second-hand fiddle and taught himself to play. Although he never read a note of music he played for many house parties and dances, sometimes for money but mostly for the sheer joy of the music. His working life was varied, working first in bush camps as a young man, then in the mines in Kirkland Lake and Gowganda, but his true love was farming. When the opportunity arose, Mom & Dad purchased a farm in Kerns Township. It would be their home for 50 years. Mom & Dad worked side by side, devoting much of their time and energy to what he loved. In addition to farming Dad worked for Helmer Pederson Construction for many years as a labourer, doing drilling and blasting, then as a backhoe operator. During this time he also served on Kerns Township Council for 13 years. Forever in our hearts. Funeral services entrusted to Perrin Funeral Chapel. In Iieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or CanadIan Lung Association would be appreciated.
