DISANO, Anthony

1931 - 2022

It’s with deep sadness that we announce the passing of
Anthony Disano at Teck Pioneer Residence on Wednesday, July
13th, 2022. Anthony is predeceased by his parents Domenico
and Anna (nee Celli) Disano and wife Nina (nee D’Andrea)
Disano. Anthony will be forever missed by his sons Domenic,
Paul, Michael and Danny Disano, all of Kirkland Lake. He will
also be lovingly remembered by his sister Clara Bottaro,
brother-in-law Germano D’Andrea, his nieces and nephews
Dino (Anna) Bottaro, Leanna (Brent) Seaton, Cathy D’Andrea,
John (Adrianna) D’Andrea, Mark (Mary) D’Andrea and David
(Monica) D’Andrea.

Anthony was born in Villa St. Lucia, Degli Abruzzi, Italy on
December 31st, 1931. In 1937, he and his mother emigrated to
Canada and joined his father in Kirkland Lake, who worked in
the local mines. In 1958, Anthony married Nina and began a
family of their own.

Anthony worked as an automotive mechanic at Sackrider’s
Garage and Caswell Motors, before becoming a shop teacher in
1963. He taught automotive mechanics at K.L.C.V.I. for 26 years
where he provided an exceptional technical education to many
local students.

Anthony was a loving and devoted husband, father and uncle,
who placed his family above all else. He enjoyed skiing,
cheering on the Montreal Canadiens and making homemade
wine and sausage. Anthony also loved reminiscing with friends
over a glass of wine at home or a cup of coffee at McDonalds.
Anthony’s family would like to extend their most sincere
thanks for the excellent care he received from the staff at

Kirkland and Englehart District Hospitals and Teck Pioneer
Residence during his stays there.
In respect of Anthony’s wishes, cremation has taken place and
no funeral or visitation will be held at this time. In lieu of
flowers, donations in Anthony’s memory can be made to Teck
Pioneer Residence (145A Government Road East, Postal Bag
Service 1757. Kirkland Lake ON, P2N3P4).

It's with sadness that I send this heartfelt note of sympathy to the four of you and all family members. Your Dad has been a great friend of the Hamden's for many, many years and our paths crossed in many ways over those years. When I was 16 years old my summer job was a 'grease monkey' and 'gopher' (go for) to your Dad in his first or second year as mechanic at Sackrider's garage. Tony and I shared many good times that summer! Later as educators at KLCVI our education discussions seemed endless but highly enjoyable and were generally in Tony's basement over a glass of Tony's homemade wine! If our discussions got heated your wonderful Mom, Nina laughed and served as moderator!!!We were also the best of neighbors to each other as our homes were opposite each other. Your Dad will long be remembered and missed. R.I.P. Tony

Tony and I were both teachers and since both English and French High Schools were in the same building, from 1980-2006, I got to meet Mr.Disano in many an occasion. He was always pleasant to talk with and I much enjoyed him on my frequent visits to the KLCVI’s staff room. My condoleances to the family and friends.

It is with sincere feelings that I feel the loss of your dad. I met him at Sackrider's Garage on Government Road in 1948 servicing our family's new Dodge Sedan. We joked re he making errors on our new car at his young age. We became friends throughout the years, especially in skiing and definitely in our years of technical teaching at KLCVI.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all

My Deepest & Most Sincere Condolences To The Entire Disano Family. Tony Is One Of The Nicest, Most Generous, Smart, & Very Witty Guys I've Had The Pleasure Of Being Around. Many Great Memories During These Past 13+ Years To Which I've Had The Honor Of Spending Family Time With. From The First Time His Niece Leanna Brought Me Over To The House, Tony Welcomed Me With Open Arms And Made A Point Of Reminding Me To Pop In Anytime And Not To Wait Too Long For The Next Visit. Tony's Strong Loving Family Attributes Were Consistently Displayed & Felt. I Always Truly Enjoyed Sitting Across From Tony In The Disano Rec Room, Sipping On A Glass Of Homemade Red Watching HIS Habs Play While Discussing (Teaching) History Facts To Me. Nick, Paul, Michael & Danny,,,,Walk Tall & Be Proud. ~ Brent (ABBRACCI).

We are so sorry to hear of Tony's passing. We offer the family our most sincere condolences. Tony was not only a friend, a mentor, a colleague and a neighbour. He was family. As his obituary stated, he emigrated from Italy with his mother in 1937. My sister and mother were on that same boat. Even though there is no direct blood relationship between us, our families came from the same town in Italy and we bear the same last name. So, chances are that there is some connection between our families going back a few generations. We were next door neighbours on Harding Avenue for 40 years and he and I taught many years at KLCVI. It is no wonder that many people thought we were brothers. However, I considered him more like an uncle. In fact I always called him "uncle Tony". I have fond memories of my youth when the Italian families would frequently visit each other. Tony was always the spearhead of the sausage making and wine making activities. I fondly recall the hundreds of conversations I had with him in our back yards discussing teaching, skiing, politics and the Italian culture. I have always admired his intelligence, his quick wit and his great sense of humour. His generosity was unmatched. Whenever we asked for a favor, he would always willingly oblige. Our respect and admiration for Tony was such that we asked Tony & Nina to be godfather and godmother to both of our children. It was an honour to be in his presence. We will miss him dearly.
