MRS. CONTANT WAS MY GRADE 9 TEACHER AT KLCVI FOR HOME MAK. I GOT THE CHANCE TO SPEAK TO HER AT TECK PIONEER DURING THE ACTIVITIES UPSTAIRS. ONCE I STARTED UP WITH THE CONVERSATION OF WHEN I BURNT MY HANDS WHILE COOKING,SHE AUTOMATICALLY LIGHTEN UP AND THE PAST JUST CAME BACK TO HER INSTANTLY. I AM SO FORTUNATE TO KNOW SHE WAS LIVING AT TECK PIONEER. WHILE VISITING ANOTHER FRIEND THERE. SHE WAS A GRAND LADY IN MY EYES THAT DAY. I WILL MISS HER VERY MUCH AS SHE WAS THE KINDEST PERSON EVER TO KNOW.

To the Contant families, My deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother. She was a very special lady and way ahead of her time in so many ways. Her devotion to family, community, education and certainly her faith were inspiring. I remember her visits to my parents’ store and the interesting conversations that always followed. My sincere condolences to your family on the loss of a very special lady. I was one of Althea’s girl guides in the mid 50’s at Holy Name. I recall her opening her home on several weekends to some of us guides working on getting our badges …. she was a gracious and caring lady and has always held a special place in my heart. What a wonderful role model she was. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Dear Diane, Sue, Gil, Raymond, Patrick, Larry and Families, Elaine and I send our heartfelt condolences to all of you on the passing of a dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Althea was a very well loved friend of the Hamden Family for many, many years, as a nurse to our Mom in the early 50’s and as a colleague at K.L.C.V.I. She will be remembered always as the wonderful matriarch of your family and a friend and colleague to so many of us who lived and worked in Kirkland Lake and area. We know you will find comfort in the many memories of a life so fully lived. Love, Gord and Elaine Hamden

To the family of Althea Contant……. Althea was a very thoughtful compassionate person. I (Sid) met her in the early 1950’s. She came to our home often, just down the street in Chaput-Hughes to nurse my dying mother. She was both a personal friend and a creative force in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Sid and Myrta Hamden

My sincerest sympathy and prayers go out to all of you at that this very sad time. I hope all the wonderful memories you have made over the years will help ease the pain of the loss of this wonderful woman. I met Althea when I was ten years old and became a member of her Girl Guide Company at the Holy Name Church. We never really lost contact from that day on. Six years after we met I became her first Gold Cord Girl Guide and I know she worked as hard as I did to achieve this honour. Her strengths and skills made her a great leader and teacher. I learned so much from her – sometimes the hard way because she didn’t let us away anything. I left Kirkland Lake thirty-five years ago and every time I returned I tried to find her – sometimes I did and sometimes I didn’t. One of the times I missed her she was out driving some of the “old folks” to appointments – I always laugh when I think of that day because as I remember it, she was the oldest one in the car. I am sure all of us who knew her could share many stories. I will truly miss her annual Xmas letter – she was always so proud of her children and whole family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My condolences to all the Contant Family. I was a member of the Holy Name Girl Guides and Mrs. Contant was our Leader. That was many many years ago but she was always so helpful and I learned a lot. There were so many of us I don’t know how she kept control of us but she certainly . did. It took me forever, it seemed, to learn how to learn how to tie all the knots but with her patience I finally figured it out. She was a patient angel.

To Raymond, all family members and friends: Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of such a wonderful person. I knew her for many years and saw her often as of late at the T.P.R. Althea was always a loving and caring person with lots of that “spunk”, which was attached to her great human values and morals. Her whole life was spent serving others, wanting no recognition for herself. Her Catholic faith was strong and unwavering. Please allow your sorrow to turn into tears of Joy, and celebrate her life of past and of future as she has gone home to be with our God. She would want this of you. Thank you Althea, for the privilege of having known you and all you have given and shared with me. Eternal Rest grant unto Althea, Oh Lord, and may Your Perpetual Light shine upon her. God bless.
