MAY (HILTON) MACKINNON (NEE CANTRILL),

2021

It is with sadness the family share the news of the Home going of our Mom, May MacKinnon. She was born August 29, 1915 in Stafford, England, and died at the Timmins & District Hospital, Timmins, ON, June 17, 2011, in her 96th year. She came over to Dane, Ontario, just outside Kirkland Lake, as a young child in 1923 and later moved to Bright. In 1940 she married Norman Hilton who predeceased her in 1953. In 1956 she married Reginald MacKinnon who predeceased her in 2005. Early in her marriage to Reg she was very active in her church and was also a Cub leader. After Reg’s retirement from the Navy in 1979 they moved to Dane, the site of Mom’s first Canadian home, and lived there until just before his death. With Reg’s help she was very involved in teaching Sunday School in her church. She also took part in a number of Bible Study groups in various churches in the community and was known as “Superior Mother” to many. In 2010 due to declining health she moved in with her daughter, Peggy, in Porcupine. She lived with them until her health began to fail. She will be remembered for her strong love for her Lord Jesus. May is also predeceased by her sisters, Francis Kokko (1960), Ada Raycove (2001), her daughter, Norma (Hilton/MacKinnon/Swift) Marriott (2003), and grand-children Norman Swift (1973) and Barbara Swift (1973), Eric Bendell (2001) and Graham Bendell (2005). She is survived by sister, Beatrice Kokko (Art), Michigan, her children, all of Ontario: son Ted Hilton (Dorothy) of Milton, daughter Peggy (Hilton MacKinnon) Bendell (Ted) of Porcupine, and son Bruce MacKinnon (Carol) of Timmins. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Dawn (Hilton) McCleave (Andrew), Stetina (Swift) Fowler (friend Dan), Gord Hilton (Deborah), Colin Bendell (Shannon), (Saskatoon), Adrian Bendell, Michael MacKinnon, and Jessiah MacKinnon. Her great-grand-children are Kirsten & Holly McCleave, Melanie Swift (fiancé Rick), Ashley Taylor (fiancé KC), Tori, Emily, and Rachel Hilton, and Avery and Kieran Bendell. So sorry for your loss, but know that she is an angel at peace. May all your wonderful memories mellow the sorrow and sustain you.

Don & Betty Tambeau, le 1 mars 2021

Today I learned about the passing of your Mother and wish to express my condolences to each of you from Wawa. Never having met your Mother but knowing the strong, independent children she raised, I expect she was an exceptional lady. The pictures that scroll on the obituary page show how much you resemble your mother. She will live on in her children and grandchildren on many levels. I will remember you all in my prayers.
