Larocque, Lawrence "Larry"

LAROCQUE, Lawrence "Larry"

1949 - 2025

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Larry Gerald Larocque at the Kirkland Lake Hospital in his 75th year.

He passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.

Larry was born in Matheson, Ontario on Oct. 28, 1949 to Anne (Worlin) and Paul Larocque.

For 19 years, Larry worked in the Mining Industry as a Chemical Technologist in Marathon where he retired from Williams Operating Corp. in 2004. He was known for his strong work ethic, integrity and commitment to a safe work place.

After his retirement, Larry moved back to his hometown of Kirkland Lake where he enjoyed time at Butler Lake fishing, boating, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Larry will be remembered for his incredible wit. His “off the cuff” comebacks brought us all laughter and often gave one food for thought. He had a gift for looking beyond the challenges life presented for him and chose to see the good things in it instead. If a problem presented itself, whether it was his or someone else’s, you could often find him pondering, and actively searching for a solution. He loved a challenge. He also loved Butler Lake and enjoyed exploring the back trails on his Quad with his dog, Thorin. Larry could often be found clearing the snow out of the driveway or mowing the lawn on his riding lawnmower, and he picked blueberries as long as his body allowed. He had true stamina. Never one to complain, Larry accepted his lot in life and squeezed every ounce of “wonderful” out of it. His resilience was amazing. He had an upward and onward attitude that just wouldn’t quit. He certainly will be missed.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Pauline, and Cecile, as well as his mother and father-in-law Irja and Harry Hansen and his sister-in-law Sharon Hansen.

He leaves behind his loving wife Karen of 47 years, his two sons, Joshua and Clinton (Stephanie), his daughter Andrea, his two sisters Lil (Tom), Helen and his sister-in-law Judy. Larry also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Jeremie, Eric, Nolan, Ethan, Lucca, Abigail and Aylin as well as several nieces and nephews.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Kirkland Lake Hospital Emergency Department, the ICU, the fourth floor nursing staff and Sandy Dal Pai and the Family Health Team for their care and support.

The home services provided by “Ontario Health at Home”, “Closing the Gap” and Neil Retty of Medigas enabled Larry to stay at home where he was happy and at ease. Thank you all for your availability and assistance.

And to Brian/Lorraine Montague, Betty/Larry Crytes, Anne/Dennis Deibel, Dianne/Glen Kasner, Linda Wilcox and Fred Ross a sincere and heartfelt thank you for your efforts, support and gifts of food.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, a private memorial will be held in the summer at Butler Lake.

Donations can be made in Larry’s name to “Muscular Dystrophy Canada” or the “Kirkland Lake Legion, Branch 87”.

The entire Larocque family

Larry was the best brother-in-law a gal could ask for! He had such wonderful sense of humour, a tremendous thirst for knowledge and a great appreciation for music! He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love and laughter. Rest easy my friend...

Aunt Karen, Andrea, Josh, Clinton and families

What a wonderful tribute. My sincere condolences to you aunt Karen, Josh, Clinton, Andrea and families. I’m holding you all in my prayers as you walk through this mourning journey. I have such fond memories of uncle Larry growing up in the same household as a little girl . He was always kind and empathetic. We always thought he was so cool especially his nickname of “Rockness” when he was young and cool. When he had his cool van with shag carpet and bought his dog Prince when he visited our area. He always reminded me to learn something new everyday and I’ve passed that down to my kids as well. Uncle Larry you were a true treasure, a gentleman, a scholar and had good taste in music. I’ll always hold you close to my heart.
Love Your niece Michelle

Karen Josh and Clinton

My sincerest condolences. I was not lucky enough to spend time with him in my adult years, but the memories I do have, still warm my heart. He was very much nanny’s son. I get great comfort in knowing that Labelle and Lulu will enjoy his company in heaven together.
