At the time when residing in Kirkland Lake, it was not always a pleasant experience among the bad and ugly – “Angels with Dirty Faces”. I was operating a Bus service in the community. To begin with, in view of a very bad situation, the source of my problems were in the administration of the two school boards, the Kirkland District Board of Education, the Kirkland District Separate School Board, the legal community and McLellan`s Transportation. My Bus service was a cause of confusion, discussion and contempt. The two school boards would ignore my concerns the Chartered Trips, the legal community failed to explain and McLellan`s would report me to the police as an unlawful activity. Anyway, in the course of events through search and discovery I was informed by my counsel in Toronto that the root of my concerns were a local issue. Among the first to arrive and support me were “Larry Brown” and “Martin Lachance” who hired my Bus service for their saturday night K.L. Legion Bingo. Later that night Robert McLellan senior would follow me along my Bus route and then report me to the police. On another occasion I was hired by “Dan Louie” to take the K.L. soccer team to Timmins on a saturday. Then again, Ken McLellan was over heard shouting on the police radio at the O.P.P. North Y demanding that I return to town. I was stopped at Kenogami for a brief moment and then allowed to continue on my journey. I loved making the Bus Trips, unfortunately due to the continued harassment it was a “No Win” situation from the beginning. While Kirkland Lake has a remarkable reputation in all sports, health and social welfare it must address the ridiculous concerns of these “CRAZY” people.

A kind, generous, and great man that will truly be missed by all that knew him, I will miss the look on his face that lit up every time his grandchildren and great grandchildren would come to see him. His boy Charlie and faithful companion will truly miss his everyday play time, laying at his feet, and company. I admired and loved him as a Grandfather which I can say he was to me. I will miss his stories about the past and present, his jokes that he always showed me before he put them in the bulletin. I will always love and miss you Pop

Greetings from Lahti. Finland in view of the recent news, condolences, articles and stories a “Tribute to a Good Man” are heartfelt, too. I first met Larry Brown at the Kirkland Lake Post Office in the early `70s.It is a wonderful and remarkable true life-long account of a man rich in the “Fruits of the Spirit” Gal. 5.22. The source of his strength of character is a disposition of integrity who produced much, in a unity of “beleivers” because he loved much, among his personal social activities, family and friends. The chimes of time in the words of Stuart Hamblen…It is No Secret. May God Bless!

Omer Henri Haapala, le 1 mars 2021

Larry, our dear wonderful man, you have left a legacy that honoured our veterans, in the House of Rememberance that families can come to view their loved ones in the years to come. Our hearts go out to the family you loved so much. K.L. will miss your giving spirit. Diane Stoodley-Howe, Peggy Stoodley-Berg.

Diane Stoodley-Howe, le 1 mars 2021

On behalf of my grandparents (Eldon & Joan Brown), their children (John, Nancy & Rob) and families… It is with great sadness that we hear of Larry’s passing. Though we were separated by distance, we always felt welcomed by our ‘northern’ Brown family. I have fond memories of long ago camping trips to Kirkland Lake. My grandfather is no longer able to travel but he will be there in spirit, mourning the loss of his older brother. May Mary and the family find comfort in wonderful memories from Larry’s community friends and Legion colleagues.

Jessica Brown, le 1 mars 2021

It is no secret the kind of man Larry was. He loved his family, was tenderhearted, loving and kind. He honored his past of being a veteran and committed most of his life to both. He had his priorities straight and it shows by the love shown here. I have had the privilege of spending some brief time with Larry and his family over the past few years and always enjoyed going there week after week. That family knows how to love others and take care of their own. If others can only take such a view of their families. Integrity was Larry’s middle name. It is not hard to care for such a man. I will miss the weekly conversations and the greeting at the door. May your family be blessed by the legacy that you left. Lots of love and hugs to the Brown family at this extremely difficult time.

Brenda Pearce, le 1 mars 2021

Danny, Sylvia, David and Monica I was so very sorry to hear of your Dad’s sudden passing. I’m sure that his memorial today will be a tribute to a life well lived, full of love, humour and dedication to family and community. I have many fond memories of Larry over the years. He had such a positive impact on people whether they knew him through the Legion or as a friend and neighbour. He was ever so patient with us when we were kids hanging out at your house, playing cards with us, telling us one of his many stories or just taking the time to chat. I hope all of you find comfort today as you gather with friends and family to celebrate the life of a fine man.

Bill McKinnon, le 1 mars 2021

Sylvia and Family our sincere sympathies and condolences on the sudden passing of your father. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss. May you find great comfort in the memories which have been left by such a kind, generous and loving man for all those who mourn his passing. He will be missed by all who have know him.

Paul Hoffman and Family, le 1 mars 2021

Dear Sylvia and Family, My heart is deeply saddened by the news your loss. The father of a family is a cornerstone, solid, and forever present. Your loss is incalculable and unfathomable. Please know that I share in your grief. In your father’s memory, I offer this prayer: Come to Larry’s assistance, all you Saints of God: meet him, all you Angels of God: receive his soul, and offer it in the sight of the Most High. May Christ receive you, who hath called you, and may the Angels conduct you to His heart. Your life now is Eternal. Amen.
