My deepest sympathies go out to Christine, Drew, Alyssa and the family. Working with John for the past 23 years, I can attest to the wonderful memories that others share of John’s warmth, compassion, humour, and commitment to his family and his students. John’s shop was always a welcome home to many of our students who needed it, and his calm, low-key approach, one-on-one, engaged these students in deep and meaningful ways. John was a friend who reached out early in my career in Kirkland Lake and helped me to feel welcome in this community- I will always be grateful to him and Christine for this. We will miss John very much.

Christine & Family and the Doxee Family – John was such a kind and gentle person who always had a smile on his face. One who always willing to lend a hand. He will be missed by many. He will live on through his children and all the students he touched. I know firsthand the impact his passing has had on my children and am certain many others as well. To Christine & Family, very sorry to hear of Johns passing. New him in high school and he had a great sense of humour. Teaching auto was obviously his destiny and from what I hear he was extremely well liked by his students. So glad he had the great life and family he deserved. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Christine, Drew and Alyssa, Such a beautiful tribute to your dear gentle and kind husband and father. I remember John always willing to take struggling and challenging students into his classroom and under his wing to try to give them some positive school experiences through his automotive classes. He made a difference in many young lives. I am so sorry and sad that he had to leave us so soon. May your many fond memories comfort you through this challenging time and sustain you in years to come. Sincerely, Linda Henry

i guess my memories of John and the Doxsee family go back to our shared childhood. The favourite one that comes quickly to mind was when he broke his leg while at Federal School. I watched his mom pull him to and from school on a tobaggan every day. While at shool, the cast would itch constantly. In order to scratch,John would use his ruler, and stuff it down into the cast,in order to get some relief from the itching! Although,we have been out of touch for many years, I feel his loss. Rest In Peace,my old friend.

My sincere condolences go out to everyone in the family during this time. John was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of knowing him as a teacher and as part of our Midget team for the two years that I played with Drew. John was a real ‘salt of the earth’ man’s man. He has a quiet humour to him that I always thought perfectly balanced our dressing room that lets face it had its share of large personalities. As a teacher he always let the kids do whatever they thought would help them learn best. Always there to lend a helping hand or crack a joke if like me the students didn’t have a clue what they were doing. I will miss John dearly and hope that you can find some comfort in all of the wonderful memories you no doubt have during this time of sorrow. Sending all of my love. Drew Enouy

My favorite memory of John…I’m at school and someone comes up to me and says, “Whose in for Doxsee? His students are all waiting in the hall to get into the shop.” I check my book and John’s not slated to be off. I knew he was expecting his 1st grandchild and I become worried that something may have gone wrong. It’s just not like him to be late for his class. I scurry about finding someone to cover the class. Not an easy feat at the last second but I beg a favor from one of the other teachers who agrees to sub in for John. On my way back to my desk, I catch a glimpse of someone coming down the hall, and lo and behold, who do you suppose it could be? It’s John, and he’s sauntering down that hallway as slow as molasses in January. He’s got this shitty grin on his face and he literally floats into my space. I try my best to give him “what fer”, but try as I might, I can’t get by the puffed up chest of a new grandfather. Despite his tardiness, I let him tell me every single detail of one of the most important events in his life. Finally he runs out of steam and I jokingly ask him if he’s done yet. He gives me a smirk and a nod and I open the door and with both my hands I literally push him out the door to the hallway and watch him whistle his way down to his classroom. That’s how I’ll remember my friend John.

Christine and family I am so sorry for your loss. John was an amazing man – so many times I can remember him offering encouragement – at the ski hill, when my car engine blew, while working at the high school and especially one day at Canadian tire when joe and I were walking around with an infant Elijah. The two of you were so excited for us and offered words of wisdom that were much needed. Whenever John’s name was mentioned Eli would say – “I love that guy”. I’m glad he has had such a wonderful role model and had the opportunity to get to know him. Our hearts are broken for you and we are sending much love your way.

Christine and Family, We would like you to know that we are saddened by the loss of John. He was a great guy. I miss him at our lunch table, and the conversations we would share. His passing has left a void in the Technology Hallway at KLDCS. There isn’t a day that has not gone by that I turn my head and look for him as I enter the school. When he was in the hall he would always greet you with a smile and a nod of his head as he leand againt the wall. At the end of the day I would find myself in his classroom as he played guitar, while we watched the KL drag racing videos together. I miss these routines at work with John. He was a good friend, and great teacher who had the ability to help the most difficult kids turn things around. We are so sad for you and all the family, but know that his acts of kindness will not be forgotten. Thinking of you, Lesha Laronde
