KENT, Frank

1929 - 2017

Francis (Frank) James Kent - August 18, 1929 to October 22, 2017, passed away peacefully at Englehart Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and friends. Frank is survived by many who will greatly miss him as Frank was the first born son of one of the original pioneering families in Sharpe Township. In mourning is his wife Lillian, whom Frank married on June 4th, 1983. Also grieving are Frank’s daughter Lorrie (& Lorne) Ferguson, their daughter Cindy (& Aaron) with great-grandchildren Sophie and Olivia, their son Patrick (& Dee) with great-grandchild Alizabeth; Frank’s daughter Ellen (& Cliff), her son Nick (& Shantalle) with great-grandchildren Damon, Jack, Ellie and Tyler; her daughter Tara (& Skylar); Lillian’s daughter Marian (& Steve), with grandchildren Brian (& Sarah), Kevin (& Anna); Lillian’s son Mark (& Brenda) with grandchildren Kyle (& Angie) with great-grandchild Regan, grandchild Erin (& Chris) with great-grandchildren Carly, Rayna, and Alistair; grandchild Treena (& Joel). Frank was predeceased by his first wife Betty and his brother Garnet, but is survived by his niece Darlene and nephew Gorden. Frank’s father, Malcolm Kent, moved to Sharpe Township in 1927 from the Muskoka District in Ontario’s efforts to develop the north and was one of the original homesteaders after the great fire of 1922. Only 2 years after moving to the area, Frank was born and spent his entire life learning to care for and develop the family homestead. Frank pursued farming as his way of life and toiled diligently, without complaint. Frank was an avid outdoorsman with a wealth of knowledge to share and took great pleasure in guiding hunters to the area. His sly sense of humour would motivate him to choose the most hungover hunter as his personal hunting partner for the day and then laughed as the hunter tried to keep up with a man who never smoked or drank in his life. Frank was the “go-to” man for any and every question concerning farming as his knowledge was overwhelming and all encompassing. The only thing that Frank never had was an enemy. He will be ever loved and remembered by everyone who knew him. Everyone is invited to celebrate Frank’s life with friends and family at the Long Lake Settler’s Club at the Charlton Legion on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Englehart & District Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Condolences, contributions and memorial candles may be left at www.mcdonaldfuneralhome.ca.
