Alan and family
Our deepest condolences to Alan and family.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric Eldridge Duff Publicover, who left us peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 78, at the Kirkland Lake District Hospital.
Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, on October 12, 1946, Eric was the beloved son of the late Eric Sr. and Alda Publicover. He was a devoted brother to Gregory (Anne), Stephen, and Pamela.
Eric will be lovingly remembered by his children, Alan and Michelle Publicover, and by all those whose lives he touched with his quiet wisdom, warm presence, and deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Twenty years ago, he fulfilled his dream of connecting with the North and nature when he relocated to Matachewan in the Kirkland Lake area. There, he embraced a life of simplicity, finding joy in the outdoors and in his craft. He was well known for his wood carvings, particularly his handcrafted walking sticks, which became a beloved staple throughout the community. Each piece reflected his deep respect for nature and his thoughtful artistry.
Beyond his love for the outdoors, Eric was an avid reader who found endless wonder in the written word. Whether exploring new ideas, escaping into a novel, or deepening his knowledge of the world, books were a constant source of inspiration and reflection for him.
Eric lived a life true to himself, one of reflection, patience, and an unbreakable bond with the land. He leaves behind not only memories but also a legacy of craftsmanship, appreciation for life’s quiet moments, and a spirit that will live on in the places and people he loved.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of quiet kindness in Eric’s memory, perhaps a walk in the woods, time spent crafting something by hand or reading a good book in his honor.
