GARVIN, David Edward – With sadness, we announce the passing of David Edward Garvin (age 88) on Friday, January 11, 2019. Ed was raised in Prescott, ON., graduated from Queen’s University and Ontario College of Education. He taught for 31 years at K.L.C.V.I., mainly history and later Art. He was predeceased by his parents, and twin brother Dr. Kenneth Garvin of Owen Sound. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (née Wilson), 3 sons Garry (Dianna), Raymond (Sonya), Stephen (Rhonda) and their lovely families. My years at KLCVI Were truly enhanced by having Mr.Garvin as my art teacher. He helped me to explorer and perfect my art. This was my main interest when I was in school and he helped me to develope my skills through the years. He was a kind, thoughtful and gentle man and I’m sure he will be missed by many…….Thanks Mr. G

Ed was a creative teacher with a great sense of humour…..he was interesting and easy to work with…..his happy character joined right in with the bond of our KLCVI teachers in those special teaching years…..our thoughts and prayers are with you Kathy and your family

Kathy and Family We are very sad to hear the news of Eds passing. He was just starting his teaching career when I was a graduating student and later we were colleagues for many years. He always had a great sense of humour and was a major contributor to what was a wonderful high school ! His great rapport with his students made him a popular and very effective educator. As a student during the ’60s at KLCVI I remember Mr. Garvin patrolling the halls and stairwells. As a colleague “Fast Eddie” and I shared the school basement, he in the Art Room and I in AV. Ed always enjoyed the stags held after our annual baseball games at the end of the school year. He had a kind word whenever we spoke. He was a real gentleman. My sincere condolences to the Garvin family.

I think of Eddy I smile. I knew him as a student when I arrived at KLCVI in 1963. I knew him as a neighbour when dad built across the street from he and Kathy.I knew him as a colleague when I returned to Kirkland Lake to teach. He always made me smile. RIP Ed

To the family, esp Gary , Ray and Steve…. sorry to hear about your dad…. Mr Garvin was my Art teacher. He was well liked and always had a smile and a handshake yrs after school. He guided my interest in Art and will always be remembered fondly.
Our condolences to the Garvin family, Ed was always a pleasure to run into and relive some of the past events including his teachings. It was his animated boxing skills that always started a conversation and his humour will be missed.
There are some people you wish could live forever because they light up everyones lives! Ed was that kind of person! I took art for 5 years because he was such a great teacher! We loved to tease each other! Ill never forget you!!!

I am sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. My first teaching job was at KLCVI and Ed was my department head. He and his wife were so kind to me as it was my first time living on my own. He will be missed.

So sorry to the Garvin Family i was very shocked to hear of Mr G’s passing. I remember him fondly at KLCVI although he wasnt a teacher of mine. He was a very funny man i got to know him as a teacher and a friend. RIP MR GARVIN !!!
Mr Garvin was my Grade 9 Art teacher at KLCVI. He always had time for all of his students and a great deal of patience. He fostered a love for Art and he had a kind and gentle nature towards us (even though we sometimes didn’t deserve it). He not only taught me Art but a great repect for myself and others. He will be missed.
It is with sadness that we read of Ed’s (or as we called him after he became head of the art department – Art Garvin’s passing. I enjoyed our staff room discussions. Our condolences to the family.
