Audrey Victoria Smith [née Eckensviller] – Audrey Smith died October 31, 2015 in Oshawa after having been ill with dementia for 10 years. She was born in Haileybury on May 24, 1924 to Hazel [Button] and Nicholas Eckensviller. Educated in Haileybury, she married Leonard Smith in Swastika on July 20, 1940. Mrs Smith worked at the Metropolitan Store in Kirkland Lake until it closed, then was a cashier at Canadian Tire in Kirkland Lake until her retirement. She moved to Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa in 2007. Mrs Smith loved to cook, do down preserves, knit and make homemade quilts. She was an excellent seamstress. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church Women’s League and the Eastern Star in Kirkland Lake. Mrs Smith is survived by her husband Leonard; daughters Maralyn and Ivan Luke of Oshawa and Donna and Rick Morris of Grande Prairie Alberta; sisters Judy Gaudaur of North Cobalt and Beatrice Decker of Serpent River; grandchildren: Kelly [Allen] Hewitt, Rob Luke and Jodi Luke of Oshawa, Mark Morris and Tammy Morris of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Bryan Morris of Dawson Creek British Columbia, Amanda Morris of Grande Prairie Alberta; great-grandchildren Spencer Hewitt of Oshawa, Isobel and Charlotte Morris of Leeds Massachusetts, Phoebe and Felix Morris of Dawson Creek British Columbia. She was predeceased by her sisters Edna Kemshall, Ethel Brown and Marjorie Brown; brothers Lloyd and Arnold “Bud” Eckensviller and great grandchild Delilah Morris in 2009.
Cremation has taken place. Audrey will be laid to rest in the Kirkland Lake Cemetery at a later date with family members in attendance.Offer Condolence for the family of Audrey Smith
