1917 - 2013

Zia died at the Englehart and District Hospital on January 25, 2013, in her 96th year. She was born in England on October 19, 1917, to Simon and Victoria Creet. Zia came to Canada as a two-year-old and was raised in Beamsville Ontario. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1940 with an Honours Degree in History and obtained her teaching certificate the following year. Her teaching career began in New Liskeard in January of 1942 where she taught for five years. After marrying Bruce, on Friday, September 13, 1946, she ventured with him to a Pollock lumber camp in the deep bush beyond Gowgama. They lived there for a number of years before moving to Englehart. She also enjoyed engaging her many students in looking at the world with a critical eye. She loved teaching and often said it was a privilege to be a part of her students` lives. Zia also loved playing bridge, reading, and gardening. Zia was predeceased by her son, Stephen, and her husband, Bruce.
