Walter Bryce “Bud” Blackburn,

WALTER BRYCE “BUD” BLACKBURN,

2021

Walter Bryce (Bud) Blackburn (1936 – 2020)Bud passed away comfortably in the Kirkland & District Hospital. He was a well-known local businessman and a highly skilled heavy equipment operator. Bud was a generous hockey sponsor and fan who rarely missed a game. He loved his family and community and will be remembered for his infectious smile and sense of humour.Bud is survived by Catherine Blackburn, wife of 58 years, his daughters Wendy Blackburn (Vincent Rochon), and Beth Blackburn (Neil Bigelow). To his 5 grandchildren Rebecca, Dylan, Emma, Drew, and Luke, Bud was always known as Poppa. They have vivid and very fond memories of traveling north to visit with their Poppa. He is also survived by his sisters, Ethel, Purbrick (Bob), and Kathleen Smith (Ken).Bud is predeceased by his brother Bill (Shirley) and his infant son David.Bud has left us many memories which include teaching us how to drive cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, tractors, dump trucks, and snowplows, all at a very young age. He kept his first car, a 1930 Chrysler, in original condition and it still runs to this day. He could spot 4 leaf clovers like magic. Bud was the chief tow operator and trail groomer at Raven Mountain and Windsor Valley. He made waiting in line-ups fun with his jokes. Bud was a self-taught musician who quietly played the accordion, mandolin, banjo, and fiddle. He was an animal whisperer who had a menagerie of pets – even a snapping turtle that came when he called.Keeping with Bud’s wishes, cremation has taken place.Offer Condolence for the family of Walter Bryce “Bud” Blackburn

To Mrs. Blackburn, I only met Bud once but that short meeting I still remember…. he came into the Teck Centennial Library (where I was working at the time) to pick you up to go for lunch. He walked in with a lovely smile, approached me at the desk and handed me a four leaf clover and said, Just for you. I pressed that clover leaf and carried it in my wallet for years and years. A very kind gesture that meant a lot to me that day. My sincere condolences to you and to your family on your loss.

Cathy, Wendy, Vince, Beth, Neil and Rebecca, Dylan, Emma, Drew and Luke We are thinking of you and sending our deepest condolences. Although not officially an uncle, Uncle Bud was how we all came to love him. That mischievous grin, his quiet approach, humour and generosity in sharing his familys summer cottage and Windsor Valley ski chalet where the vivid memories come flooding back. Uncle Bud seemed to thrive behind the scenes in his understated way but you could sense his quiet joy during the cousin chaos, whether sharing a pot-luck meal after hitting the cross-country trails in the chalet or after a full day of swimming and shenanigans in the lake. Thank you Uncle Bud for all of the wonderful times your dedication to family and the kindness bestowed upon your huge extended family is fondly remembered, always. As we get older and look back, we reflect on those fun-filled times and appreciate them even more what a gift he gave to so many. Rest in peace. Love Maureen Connolly and Marcy, John, Laurie, Ken, Johnny, Paddy, Erin, Cassie and Larry

Awe, to Cathy, Beth, Wedy & Families Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of “Uncle Bud”. We have so many fond memories with your family, from many Sunday morning breakfasts on 65 Comfort, to downhill skiing at Windsor Valley and sneaking a extra cup of Hot Chocolate when you parents were caught up in the gift of gab, and all the Skidoo trips around Kirkland Lake. Living and renting from you on Algonquin Ave was always a wonderful memory many years ago, remember scouting the whole neighborhood looking for Megan, as she had gone missing and finding her (after all neighbors were on the prowl for her) sitting on Uncle Budd lap, watching a hockey game. Oh my, that was a welcome relief when she said, Hi Mommy! Haha So very sorry to hear and know he was thought of with deep heartfelt love. He was such a gentle man! Kevin & Patti Connolly
