HUDSON, Valerie (Val) Alberta Newman June 10,1926 – March 7, 2025
With broken hearts and profound sadness, her family announces her peaceful passing on March 7th, 2025 at the age of 98 years at the Teck Pioneer Residence.
Born in 1926 to Frederick and Vera Newman in Faversham England. Mom spent her youth surrounded by all of her siblings and large extended family. She always spoke fondly of those years growing up with her siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Our Mom came to Canada as a young war bride with the love of her life. Mom and Dad were married in England in Faversham and in 1945 moved back to Canada to the Sudbury area. It was a new adventure for such a young woman to leave her family in England but with her strong character and personality made a life in Canada. Mom and Dad moved north and set up house in Dobie in 1947 where they had and raised their three children. Those were busy times for a young family but the best times. Mom was the town clerk of Dobie for many years where she advised and guided many councils. Her biggest accomplishment being to have water and sewer installed. Mom always had a huge flower garden which she was so proud of.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Doug (2012) and son Robert, her parents Frederick and Vera Newman, sister Gillian (Gerald deceased), Brother Alan (Pat deceased), She is survived by daughter Sharon (Michael) son Colin (Gerri) Her siblings Jackie (Desmond), Annette (Bill deceased), Victoria, daughter in law Linda Grandchildren Nicholas (Brianna) Scott (Carolyn) Sara (Michael) great grand children Robert John and Temperance. She has a large extended family of nieces and nephews in England who will forever miss her.
We are very proud of our mom who taught us right from wrong and to be independent and think for ourselves. She always had an opinion and liked to have a good discussion on any topic you could think of. In 2011 Mom and Dad moved into the TPR where she resided until her passing. She was a very private person and loved to read and watch television. We are sure she read every book in the Teck library thanks to Gordon who kept her supplied with the books she loved to read. She was always up for a good game of crib or bridge. In her younger years she was an avid curler and loved to watch it on tv and most often criticizing the shots.
Mom was British to the core and always called us you Canadians. Her last two goals in life were to outlive the Queen which she did and live to be 100. We would like to say thank you to the many staff from TPR who looked after our mom for many years and more recently those very special people who helped us during a very difficult time and kept her comfortable and looked after our every need. These are very special people.
Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will take place at a later date.
