Charene
There are no words that soothe a daughter who has lost her mom. She made you, raised you and gave you all her hopes and dreams. May you feel our love for you in our wishes.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Shirley Jones (nee Parsons) at the age of 87. Cherished by her children Michele (Larry) Lamoureux, Drew (Lise) Robertson and Charene (Russ) Clayton. Loving grandmother of Greg (Judith), Bradley (Emily), Danielle, Curtis, Deanna and Adam. Beloved great grandmother of Lucas, Laura, Leo, Jane, Lily, Olivia and Sophia.
She is also survived by her stepchildren: Brenda Jennings, Elaine Robertson, Bette (Mike) Lafleche, John Davis and Patricia (Rick) Brown; many step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, her sister Lorna Thomas of Calgary, her sister-in-law Dolores Parsons of Kingsville and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley is predeceased by her loving husband Richard Jones, by her brother Robert Parsons and her parents Horace Parsons and Dorothy (Lloyd-Lewis) Parsons.
Shirley was born in Banff and raised in Calgary. She moved to Southern Ontario in 1963 and then on to Northern Ontario in 1979 to stay. She always said she loved the North as the people were friendly just like Westerners.
Her many careers included a telephone operator, microfilm technician, business owner, newspaper distributor, school bus driver and after obtaining a college diploma in her late forties, a bookkeeper and lots of volunteer work.
Anyone who knew our mom, understood how much she loved reading. She always had two or more books on the go, had a few news magazines on her table, was on the internet reading up on current events and would often email a good joke to family and friends at the early hours of the day. Even though she was mostly house bound in the past few years, she could always engage in a good conversation about world events. She also loved reading recipes, and even though she didn’t test very many, her huge collection of recipe books was very special to her.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, all are welcome to celebrate her life with us at 742340 Dawson Point Rd, New Liskeard on December 3rd, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
Donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated during this Christmas season, as there was a time when they were very generous to her and her children. We would like to thank the PSWs of Timiskaming Home Support, and the staff of Care Partners for taking such good care of her which allowed her to stay in her home as long as she did.
