EMMS, Pauline

1930 - 2021

EMMS, Pauline "Polly" (nee Johnston) - The family of Pauline Emms regret to announce her passing on November 27, 2021, at Teck Pioneer Residence at the age of 91.

A lifetime resident of Kirkland Lake,  Polly is predeceased by her infant son George Labine, her first husband Noel (Chris) Labine, her parents George and Kathleen Johnston, and her sisters Barbara Lalonde and Rosemary Simms.

Lost but not forgotten to her daughters Michelle Contant, Kathryn August and Noella Labine-Bustraen are sunny evenings with margaritas on the deck, quiet walks along the beach, her kind heart, and sympathetic ear.

Some of Polly’s greatest loves in life were her pets, dancing, flowers, and children. She was blessed with her husband, John Emms, her dance partner for 46 years who ensured that there were always flowers, and with 6 grandchildren (David Contant, Jennifer McGillivray, Riley and Tyler August, and Elijah and Isaac Bustraen) and 2 great-grandchildren who will all fondly reminisce about their time spent at “Nanny’s cottage” on Round Lake for years to come.

She will also be remembered by her stepson Michael Emms and his children Jenny, Joshua, and Jordan, and by her sister Gwen Polyblank.

Many thanks to the staff at Teck Pioneer for their care and kindness in her final days.

The family will gather for a celebration of her life in the spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sleep well, Polly, knowing you are always in our hearts.

The Family

So sorry for your loss! I remember your mother as a woman whose face lit up when she smiled. She always welcomed me warmly whenever I visited with Michelle and later on when our paths would cross. Thinking of you and remembering you in my prayers.

We are very sorry to learn of your loss. I first met Mrs. Labine when I a young teenager spending summers at Round Lake, becoming friends with the girls, enjoying beach fires, fishing, water-skiing, sleep camps and music. As an adult I returned with my sons and she was now Polly sharing her life with the amazing John. She was the last of that generation who helped shape all our lives, while creating many great memories for you and your families to take comfort with now and in the future.

John and family

I am so sorry to hear of the recent passing of this wonderful lady. She will be missed by all who knew her. I have fond memories of our gatherings together along with Marion, Marilyn, Geraldine and Shirley during our Ramoli days many years ago. We always looked forward to her Ham and Cheese Strata at the end of our evening. We sure had lots of fun! My sincere condolences to John and her daughters and her extended family. May your memories bring you joy as time passes.
