Osmo Niemi,

OSMO NIEMI,

2021

Osmo Niemi passed away at the Kirkland & District Hospital on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the age of 76 years. Osmo is survived by his son Timo Niemi of Onaping; daughter Pirkko (Terry Morin) and grandchildren Timothy, Tasha and Taylor to whom he always brought rolls of pennies for rent for staying in her room. He is also survived by his sisters Maija-Liisa (Niemi) Hernsesniemi and Kyllikki Niemi both of Lappajärvi, Finland as well as aunts and uncles of which Aarne Niemi (Laine) was like a brother. Osmo came with his wife and two children to Canada on April 5, 1959 which anniversary he was always proud to point out. He began working in the mines in Kirkland Lake but his real and natural talent lay in carpentry; a master crafter. Osmo also had natural talent for music as self-taught shared his talents with the violin, the accordion, the guitar and the mandolin some of which he had made himself. Osmo could spin a yarn that would make dourest of individuals chuckle not that he didn’t enjoy watching a good comedy himself. His family enjoyed watching him enjoy a good comedy. Perhaps not so lucky in love but made up for his winnings in lotteries and cribbage. His cribbage playing was seriously magical – "hepum pepum." Osmo will be missed by many and at this time his family would like to thank the VON for all their home visits and patience. I know he would like me to make special mention of Nora. Thank you Dr. Denton (again), Mary Anne, all the Physicians and nurses at Kirkland & District Hospital who made his last remaining months as comfortable as possible (Matthew). Much appreciation as well go out to all the volunteer drivers and volunteers of the Cancer Society and to all that work at the beautiful Cancer Centre in Sudbury. Osmo would surely wish to extend his gratitude to many friends and neighbours but in particular George Ylijoki a long time friend, Helge and Nancy Mattson, Peter Kalliomäki, his neighbours Mr. & Mrs. Don Bolduc, Harri and Ellisa Ollila for helping him to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. "Oh death where is thy sting for today with the angels I sing." As per his request cremation will take place and no service will be held. Donations in Osmo’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (61 Main St. Kirkland Lake, Ontario P2N 3E4).Offer Condolence for the family of Osmo Niemi
